6.5x55

6,5X55 gives so much and asks so little.
Excellent accuracy and performance with low muzzle blast and recoil.
Do not know many calibers that are like that

HaHa Not for me, I have no use for that caliber.:D
The fact of the matter is that the 270Win and a whole bunch of similar chamberings from 257Roberts to 30/06 all do a very good job with little or no difference in performance on game, esp with the better bullets available these days. Most guys just use them deer hunting anyways.

X2!
They are all so close that at "normal " hunting ranges, it doesn't matter WHAT you are shooting, as long as you out the bullet where it is supposed to go.
It all comes down to an emotional choice for us - UNLESS you are talking about the .243 Winchester, which it a POS cartridge for deer!:D

and not to be overlooked is it doing the same job it has been for over 100 years, putting game on the ground very quickly and efficiently with little fuss, noise or recoil. And probably frustrating the manufacturors who say you HAVE to have the latest whiz-bang if you stand any chance of cutting your tag.I've got three in 6.5x55 and three more in 9.3x57,five of them bought from Tradeex. You hold 'em straight and they'll do THEIR job

My father and uncle have gone over to the 6.5 X 55 in the last year or two. Sporters with good glass; they can't be beat. Good coyote guns too, and they'll shoot at a 'yote at ranges they wouldn't with a deer. They rave about the calibur. A friend of the family tricks out under-appriecated sporters with timney triggers and other good stuff. The friend swears that the american ammo is underpowered, he recommends handloading. Claims that the 6.5 is purposefully lowballed by many US writers, because; like the 9mm Parabellum vs .45 ACP thing... nothing the Europeans do can be better than 'merican stuff.
Could be...
I've got a Gustaf somewhere in northern AB...sigh. Waiting on shipping and processing, LOL

Commercial ammo is loaded down in deference to the older actions. Federal blue box 140gr runs about 2400fps, while handloading in a modern action will net you 2750-2800fps with a 140gr bullet. The 6.5x55 really shines when loaded to modern pressure levels in a strong action.
