Instead of buying a 6.8 western I would just build a fast twist 270wsm.

Build a fast twist 270 Wby instead. Or 270 STW. Go hard. - dan
Dan the 27 Nosler is the BEST ! Modern non belted BIG 27 cal cartridge now . RJ
91 gr cc for the nosler, 93 for the stw. I have no issues with belts. - dan
You didn't have the bullet selection then that you do now.We were ordering slow twist barrels and long throating guns many years ago. The old guys were doing it 50 years before us, nothing new here. Did I mention I hate short cartridges? Hahaha

Very true but between the .270 and wby never saw the need. Just a general statement, my .338 is still throated for 250 Noslers seated to the base of the neck.
I have some Barnes LRX 155 grain #32112(Barnes' answer to fast twist .277) on order that I am hoping to make work.Stubblejumper that's my concern exactly. But I'm committed now and should be able gather enough components over the next while to keep me going.
Well it's happening, ordered a 6.8 Western, some ammo and dies. I appreciate the comments and input, modifying cases and rifles isn't for me when what I want is right there .
No proper head stamp brass fir a 27 STW ! Lol RJ

Also not important. - dan
Unless you want to take it overseas, many of us here do. This said few would travel with something other than a mainstay to anywhere truly wild for obvious reasons.
The 6.8 looks like a good mountain round. Fast enough to be broadly effective, with moderate recoil. Two bags of brass should last a long time. Seeing as I just found .250 Savage brass new, I don’t think it’ll be impossible in twenty years. Just tough perhaps.
