Anybody out there with actual experience with this cartridge? I am not interested in google search data, thanks, just personal experience. I have load data from a computer program, but none from actual users.

Doug

Sorry, chum... I have nothing on that one, however the data indicates that it is duplicated by many other more common cartridges... which is probably a better way to go.

Yes, my friend Mister Google has shown me quite a bit of data. But I am hoping for some personal experience.

Doug

So, here is a bit of an update, and to bring this onto the first page again......The published data seems to indicate a maximum COAL of 3.23". BUT in my rifle that bullet is well into the rifling and pressure, already fairly high, might get catastrophically so. I decided I want to try a 103 grain Hornady ELD-X bullet for my first load, and it has to be seated quite a bit deeper, for a COAL of 3.1675". I am waiting for another member here who has a couple computer load data programs, to suggest a starting load. Looks like H1000 will be the first powder to try.

So>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>anybody out there with real world experience with this cartridge?

What is the barrel length and twist? You may not be able to stabilize that bullet.

Foreword apology, this isn’t 6 Frere real world experience, just thoughts from the fast and small world. There’s merit in the 6mm-7mm hyper speed concept for long zeros, you can have +\- 4” to well over 350 yards with many of the options in the class.

Not the same thing, but a quick comparison shows them to be remarkably similar. I collected everything for a .25 Gibbs when I was very goat minded, 1/9 twist. Idea was to shoot as far as possible with a long zero and dead hold, which it will do to 350 yards easily. I geared up with 115 Bergers.

I had .257 Roberts at the time, and found on the range I could generate similar long zero shooting with it by dropping the bullet weight, so I gave up on the Gibbs. But when looking to extract every bit of speed and range… there’d be a difference. The easiest way into that world is the ‘Bee of course. But it’s not for everyone.

It has a VERY short barrel, at only 18 inches. Not the length I would have chosen for this chambering, but I did not have it built. The twist is 1:7, so it should stabilize the heavier bullets. I reckon I am going to find out.........

Ardent, Thanks for your input. I have had a couple rifles in .240 Weatherby, great cartridge but all I ever shot with it was paper. If my research so far is correct (and it is from the Internet  ) then the starting load data for the 6 x 62 Freres is the .240 Wby data.

Load data is all black magic to me even after loading for well over a hundred different cartridges and who knows how many recipes! Without data I have no earthly idea what might be a good powder choice, etc etc.

Yeah, 1:7 should easily stabilize that bullet... can you describe your rifle for us?
