Back in 2005 I had a rifle built that I figured would double as a good deer rifle and a good target gun for shooting out to 600 yards. Remington 700 in 260 Remington with a Gaillard barrel. Our local range only goes to 330 yards, so I never really got to realize the purpose I had in mind.
Finally this spring I have gotten to stretch it out a bit further and it's been alot of fun.
I'm shooting 107 gr Sierra MatchKings over 41.8 grs Varget in a R-P case & Fed 210M primer. 3110 fps avg from the 23" barrel
I had a big target set up at 593 yards. Ballistic program said 10MOA lift, and I fired one shot, walked down to see where I hit. A tad high (6") so I dialed down to 9moa and fired 3. Walked down to check it out and I was pretty surprised to see this
3 inches c-c, drifted about 8" right
Went back and fired another group which measured 8"
and set up a 4L water jug and nailed it on my 4th shot
Today I went back and tried a couple more groups. First attempt was 4.25"
2nd group went 7"
So it took me 4 years but I finally am getting my feet wet into longer range shooting. I've been missing out on alot of fun
