686 oh boy oh boy

I can hit most anything I shoot at with my old Norc......but If I want to call LONG DISTANCE......
I use the WHEEL GUN.

Hey that's the same commander version I have... your beaver tail, does it sparkle? I noticed the tail and the mag release both are a black sparkly material. The mag release unscrews and can wander away I found, I'm either going to loc-tite it on, or just buy a regular sized one. In fact, of the things I didn't like on the norinco: full sized guide rod and open spring cap, poor machining on the feed path, and ugh, those awful palm-biting magazines. Oh and I guess the sights too. I fired a Tarus not too long ago and it just felt -awesome- and I could hit more or less what I was aiming at... But I have faith. The 1911 came in the AR-15/1911 combo, I think $1000 delivered to my door. Hard to get too upset over a few little things I can fix. (and the fun in the fixing!) :)

The M&P R8 is high on my list to... JP.

I had to look it up (I've literally been out of shooting more or less for 20 years). It has the classic look but with rails, kind of neat actually, Although this one is a bit much :

My dad was a big 'old west' colt guy. Loved the old colts, but sold his off after his divorce, under suggestion from the police and his lawyer : sigh : I have no idea what happened to Grandpa's 1911. Anyway, I never did like the old colts, they were noisy, and a pain to load. However now I appreciate the classic appeal to them, would love to have those in the collection too. Everyone passed away before I rekindled my interest, and their stories are gone forever now.

.

woa, that thing is a beauty. i can picture me playing with a 5'' version.

on the 686 topic, i did not dived deep into the subject, i've been told the frame config used for the 686-6 is the L frame labeled medium . so in theory it implies the gun should be good to take +p ammo all day long without risking some frame extension on the long run. also i'm glad the -6 model has adjustable rear sight which is a very handy feature when using multiple loads.

the 686 sporting a fluted 8'' (??) bore is impressing

One must not limit ones self to only one style of firearms. Revolvers are fun too! Here are a few of my favorites.

And last, but not least, my newest long desired acquisition.

Left Montreal Friday pm. Right now it's at the Ottawa, Canada Post Centre.

Tomorrow is Sunday. OK. Fine. Day of rest (or church).
What's wrong with Monday morning?

I am a wheelgunner. 2 semis and 5 revolvers.

All I'm waiting on is the ATT. It's sitting in the case just waiting to be picked up, only 30 min drive. It's killing me. What a silly rule the ATT is. "but I'm angry now!". ;)

Is that in DA or SA? If SA you may find in DA the bullets no longer behaves.

I will come clean and admit it was SA, and his trigger was tricked out a fair bit. Pull felt like 1-2 lbs in SA but maybe 5 in double action (just a loooong pull). I need to find a measure but I would guess the pull on my norinco to be 8 to 10lbs, so except for the pull length it was easier than the auto. When I catch up with him again I'll likely ask where he had the work done, as playing around with a 686's trigger is waaaay beyond my abilities. Oddly enough he had traded in a colt python for the S&W and some cash... I think I would have kept the python lol.

^ I prefer to shoot in DA to maintain grip and line of sight that is distracted with cocking the hammer in single.

Be sure to try out the S&W Performance Center series, the extra fine tuning does produce a rather nice DA.

I think someone welded a silver bar to the bottom of that! :)

Best part of the full underlug weight is that with 38 special it has no muzzle rise.Lets me get 6 shots off real fast and never lose my target. With full bore 357 mags the muzzle rise is like a normal 38 special load. When I bought it,it had just come back from the performance center and had a full tune up done to it. It had absolutely no flame cutting on the top strap even. It had hardly been shot at all.....bestest bestest part of it all...I only paid $350.00 for it just the way it is in the pic!!!

I want to join this club. The 686 6" is the next gem on my list! Never thought I would want a wheel but that gun feels so right in the hand! Just have to save up for this puppy.

I think that compared to my .45, I didn't think there was much recoil at all. Much less anyway, but I can see how that extra weight would definitely help, I did have to line up each shot.

That price is one of those "oh you're kidding me" prices ;) Good score.

i'll join that club

I like those grips... On the L frames I'm guessing there are flat bottom models and round bottom? I think I would have preferred the look of the flat bottom, but pretty sure I got a round one. The flat bottoms just look more proper (oldskool anyway).

L Frame square butt. Downside is the grips are super fat. I like the look of 'em, but in practice they're just too big for me.
