I am thinking of getting a barrel spun up in a 6mm caliber. I am leaning most towards another 243 but with a fast twist to stabilize the heavier bullets. The reason I'm leaning this way is I have dies, brass, etc for the 243. I guess my question is if I'm giving up anything by going with a 243 with a fast twist vs the 6 creed or any of the other 6mm options. I suppose I could sell off my brass, dies etc but I did enjoy my 243 when I had it. I don't compete or hunt, just looking for another toy.

Honestly. I’d rather just do a 6mm creedmoor if it’s gotta be 6mm. Buy a die and some brass. Not that much more money honestly. Better for the long heavy pills.

I really like the 243. However I find them to eat barrels up. I too would like a fast twist 243 to stabilize the 105 and 110 grain vld bullets. But barrel life is certainly a factor for me.

The 243 Winchester is a good choice. Put it in an action that will take 2.9" oal or a single shot and you'll be able to shoot the long 115-105 bullets from an 8 twist. Lapua brass, and you've got all the stuff already. Great cartridge. I built a Kimber 84m in one but I found I prefer the 85-100 gr bullets for varmints or even deer. Loaded to the same pressure the 6 CM should be similar in velocity.

243 is good. Not dissing it but I’d sooner start over with the 6 creedmoor especially when loading longer boo-leets and wanting to use your magazine to feed ammo

I'm currently playing with a fast twist (1:8) 6mm BR. Pretty impressed so far. I have lots of faster 6's, 243, 6mm Rem, 6mm Rem AI, 6mm-284, and a 240 Gibbs. Faster you go, the quicker you'll be changing barrels. - dan

Same here, I have my #2 TR chambered in 6Br with a 1:8 Krieger. Used the standard Norma reamer and it shoots inside my 308 wind wise with sleepy non hot rod loads and 107 Sierras. Barrel life is supposed to be 3000 plus and zip for recoil. I’ve shot it up to 600m with good results and accuracy is great. Apparently it can go to 1000 if you use warmer loads as well.

I have 3 6mm Rem, 2 in No1s and one in a M77V. I have a spare Rem 700 action that I am going to get a JC barrel made for it. 1-9. Long neck brass, easy to come by. Can load up fast. My favorite is 45gr 4831.

I have had thoughts of a 6mm-06 too. We don't play this game if we are worried about barrel life.

I often throw around the idea of another build. Either 6mmbr or maybe a Dasher. However I already have a great 6.5x47 so I am not getting much that the 6.5 doesn't already do very well.

I have been looking at that 6mm SLR the past day. Very interesting cartridge. Easy to make brass for it. But yeah them barrels aren't going to last forever. For the casual shooting that I do my choice would be something on the BR case. That said the higher velocity cases definitely have their place where they shine.

How do you like the 6.5x47? I know the Creedmore is all the rage right now but I had considered the 6.5x47 for my next short action tac rifle build.

It looks like a good cartridge and I don’t mind bucking up for good Lapua brass.

It would be 6x47 Lapua or 6 Creedmoor for me is I was doing a 6mm, which I’m very likely to do shortly.

The 6 creedmoor looks like a good performer as well. I have always been drawn to the big fat 6 BR case and the potential accuracy is hard to ignore. I suppose a downside can be reliable feeding from a magazine...

I love it. Very easy to load for. Doesn't seem to care what powder I use. H4350, R17 and N550 all produce great groups. I've used everything from 123 scenars to 130 Berger's and 140 grain and 139 grain bullets. The only bullet I didn't have excellent results with was the Sierra 130 tmk.

It's a very forgiving cartridge with great brass life.

Thousands and thousands of BR based rounds are cycled and ejected every weekend. If there were feeding issues guys wouldn't use them in timed events.

243 is fun. As said the creed you can seat the long match bullets outside the case. 6.5x47 is the easiest cartridge in the world to reload for.
