6mm rem rifles?

Dave, I should have known you would come to the rescue of the 6mm. I don't think anyone is chambering it today, but the 243 is doing great. Hey Dave I still have one, yup, a pre64 model 70 chambered in 6mm Ackley, someday I may rebarrel to????243 what else.

I shot a 6mm Page Sooper Pooper, and a 6mm Ackley for years. Did you ever try the 105 gr Speer spitzer in yours? It was pure poison in both of my rifles at over 3100 fps.

Hi Ted, I'll have to keep that in mind 105 speer, it should work OK seeing the rifle started as a 243 and has the faster twist. I haven't used the rifle in years, may have to dust it off and take it to the range again.

You could always order a Copper in 6mm Rem. I did and do not regret spending a little extra money just to have something different.
 
Remington stops making them for a while then starts up again in a couple years. I bought a 700 VLS in 6mm in 2008 when they stopped making them its the most accurate gun I own. For the record anyone who used a 6mm knows that 243 is garbage.

that's probably becasue you can't buy a new rifle in 6mm these days...gotta build one.

I remember about 15 years ago a hunting buddy had a Rem 700 BDL in 6mm, I had the exact same rifle in 243....both standard 22" sporters...he could never get 100 grainers to go as fast as my 243,..but he could drive 80/85's faster than I could....they are pretty much peas in a pod unless you have your 6mm in an action long enough to seat 100gr bullets out of the power space...a Rem 700 aint it...

I have a reamer,dies and a couple boxes of Dominion 75 grain factory ammo...maybe I should twist up a 6mm...had three different 722's in 244 over the years...
 
I think the 6mm is the better cartridge, but apparently most of the buying public doesn't agree with me. I have two of them, and a 243 as well (had two of those and gave one away). I also shoot a 6mm-284 and a 240 Gibbs, a 6mm AI, and a 243 AI. Have a switch barrel Xp100 that has barrels for 6x47 (the original) and 6 PPC as well (need one for the 6 BR now). Anyway, in my case, the 6mm out paces the 243 by a shade, not by much though. If you don't handload, buy the 243. You don't see 6mm Rem ammo many places anymore. - dan

I meant a 700 short action aint it...but you knew that..:D

Actually, I did put a factory 6mm barrel on a long 700 for a guy a couple years ago...that's the way to go...
 
I have an old Remington 788 in 6mm that is almost astounding as a beater hunting rifle. The last time I took it out to the range it appeared to hit the target on the first round ( at 100 yards )and then miss the other two out of the three shot mag. It wasn't until the third time it did this that I and my shooting buddy realized what was happening. I have always shot a group. It didn't occur to me right away that they were all the same hole. I know many of you witness this in a pricey pursuit for amazing accuracy. I didn't really believe that you could do this with a 37 year old rifle you bought 20 years ago with your babysitting money. Now that of course is not typical but my groups are usually less than an inch. It is the only calibre that makes me feel like a good shot. ( I usually shoot 7.62x39 or 22LR )
 
Remington's site claims their VLS comes in it, but it's not listed in the specs. Nobody else appears to be currently making a rifle chambered in 6mm Rem.
"...Except drive bullets as fast..." Only about 100 fps faster with like bullet weights. Not enough to matter. You won't likely be able to find the roughly $10 per 20 more expensive 6mm Rem ammo in smaller places either.
Arguing that the 6mm is better than the .243 is like arguing the .30-06 is better than the .308.
