6mmBR Appreciation thread ***Gun #### Thread***

Cool thanks, but if the 6mmbr is really good, how does the 6mm Swiss match compare given that it is the same bullet?

Thanks!

Higher velocity. Have fun finding anyone that uses it in North America.

It is more or less a 6XC with a little less case capacity or a 6-6.5x47l with a large primer pocket instead of the small primer (serious flaw with the 6-6.5x47l IMO). So a 6XC would be better suited as you can prolly get brass and a smith that actually chambers it.

If you are looking for a medium sized round the 6.5x47L is a much better alternative IMO. You would bump up from a 6mm to 6.5 but I understand this to be the closest competitor to the 6mmBR with higher velocities and a lot of 6.5 bullets have higher BC as well.

I will always argue the 6mmBR's case tho. It is a proven design that is easy to shoot and just works well.

/not an expert, so get as many opinions as you can.

Actually I was thinking I would graduate to 6mmbr or similar after getting some good experience and reloading skill on a .223 or .243WIN, jsut not sure which one yet...

bump.

A little 6mmbr ####.
My stock isn’t worthy but the CNC engraving is.
Stock Rem 700 action and sightron scope.
Hope to get a better stock some day soon.

Hears my other 6BR
14 twist, tight neck, normally shoot 60 grainers has about 2600 round down the pipe. I purchased the pipe used as a 6PPC, shorted and rechambered. This was my practice at chambering barrel then practice at CNC fluting barrel. Its around 19" I just sat it in this stock for the pick. It normally sits in a factory wood stock.
Still shoots great, deadly on the prairie zhu zhus.

I guess you know that your barrel started life as a 15-8" gain twist. I would have thought it was tighter than 14" at the 19" mark?

The 6BR with light bullets is a very cool varmint round for sure!!!

Congrats.

Another quality rig from Jerry P.

You live in Brandon and close by?

And that 1st pic I bet you anything I know exactly where it was taken. Looks like by the N/W gate of the pasture north of the crown land in the Souris River Valley (without being too specific).

Eerily close anyways. lol

Not quite. I live north of Neepawa. Still fine tuning load,if the rain would quit. Jerry is an awesome guy to deal with. ALWAYS answers his phone or calls back ASAP.

Which targets are you referring to? You sure you don't have two similar looking rifles mixed up.

Neck lengh has SFA to do with barrel life only insofar as it trades brass for case capacity.

I agree that how a rifle is used and how it is allowed to heat up will affect the degree of erosion, and to that end, 6.5-284's used in competion shooting 20 round strings have a short useful life, but they still top out at 1000 - 1200. (I am chasing the lands on mine 5 thou every 100 rounds) You can only go down hill from there, and that is strictly the ratio of case capacity to the surface area of the case opeining.

I am a very avid varmint hunter, with 300 acres of gopher infested heaven between me and my neighbour. I have worn out a new 204 Ruger barrel in a 3-day weekend (900 rounds) I also use many 6mm variants.

I'm not trying to dump on you... you have a very nice rifle indeed! It is nice to see someone do it RIGHT in everyting. It would be a coup to shoot a 900M F-Class match with a 204 bullet!!!!, but unfortunately based on your targets, the accuracy isn't there for competition. Our 300M V-Bull is .4 MOA .

Getting him to answer usually isn't the problem, lol.

Anyways, thought for sure I knew the area of that pic, everything looks the same out here.

I know another guy from Neepawa that shoots a 6mmBR. Dunno if I should be shouting his name on the interwebs tho...
His initials are K.K. You know him? He is a pretty awesome dude to shoot with, knows his 6mmBR real well.

Sorry fellas seems my pix didn't work for my second 6BR.
The progressive twist is 26" first one, and the 1:14 is the shortened fluted second one. Sorry for the confusion.

OK time to bring this thread back from the dead.

My contribution, just arrived home from the gunsmith a week ago. The photos do not do justice to the colours and high gloss finish on the stock. Still waiting for the weather to warm up a bit before it goes to the range for load development.

Barnard S action, 17 MOA scope rail
Krieger 28" 1-8 twist, #17A taper
Jewell trigger set at 2 oz.
F - Open Stock from Precision Rifle and Tool LLC.
Weighs 17.2 lbs as photographed. Should weigh in just under 21 lbs once I mount the scope and rings.

What's the barrel jump like on the 6mmbr? For example if shooting gophers would one lose their sight picture?
