6th Annual Upper Canada Double Gun Classic - Take Two!

Too funny... I haven't logged into this site in a coon's age. Tonight I think to myself, "Its that time of year; I wonder of someone's gonna try another Double Gun Classic?". And BOOM! there it is, announced yesterday! Count me in :)

Wouldn't be the same without you!

Congratulations on organizing this event, James. Its a long, long way from my home in Calgary but maybe one year I can make the journey. Most importantly, it would be great to meet with the collectors, many of whom I have met thanks to CGN.
The Calgary gun show is next weekend---the show was cancelled for 2 years due to covid---therefore, next weekend will be loads of fun meeting collectors and their fine guns, and hopefully lots of doubles.
Bill

Kind of you Bill. Thanks. But really, I'm just stepping into VictoryXC's shoes. Patrick is the one who got the ball rolling and put in the work for the first five years. It's easy now.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend this year's event due to my own oversight. When James and I discussed a date and came up with June 4th I forgot I was heading out to Calgary that day. For some reason I thought I was going the following weekend.

I am sure it will be a fantastic day and I will certainly miss seeing everyone. (especially after a two year hiatus) Looking forward to seeing the pictures.

This week's Gun of the Year winner is from the 2016 edition of the Double Gun Classic. It is a mildly customized gun, an A.H. Fox early engraving B grade circa 1910. It is a 12 gauge with 32" barrels. There were only 11 guns of that configuration built and two of the 11 are owned by attendees to the shoot. Besides beautiful wood and careful reshaping of the trigger guard bow and the top lever, the most unique aspect of this gun is the perfectly done semi-beavertail forend. As a whole, I have long thought this to be the most beautiful gun I have ever seen in person. And the owner is deadly with it on the range or in a blind.

That is a gorgeous Fox shotgun. I have only seen entry level Fox shotguns and nothing to approach this beauty.
I'm hoping you will share pics of other award winning shotguns.

I would like to follow up on Spank's suggestion of submitting pics of guns "in absentia". That way collectors from across the huge expanse of our beloved homeland can share the joys of our treasured guns from the comfort of our homes.
This a Purdey bar-in-wood 12 gauge hammer 12 gun made in 1880. It has original steel barrels (one of the first guns made with Whitwoth steel) and was nitro proved in the early 1900's. I have been its custodian for nearly 50 years.

Marten Hagn stripped and cleaned it a few years back and added a leather covered recoil pad. he marvelled at the workmanship especially the bar-in-wood stock.
