7.62 Gewehr 98 question

Israeli's had their own slings and sight hoods with a cross pin in them (usually missing and instead have a hole there) so watch for those items to restore it back to original.

Neat rifle and a good price.

Oh, and the bolt would be force matched by the Israelis to the receiver.

Mines got a spring steel hood , no pin.

I love the Israeli K98k`s, always nice you can get ammo anywhere if needed. And I have yet to see one that didn`t shoot strait. I`m always on the look out for another. Especially if Czech made receiver.

I have received one of these rifles and have been doing some research on the history and conversion. Mine is a german I guess k98, it is stamped with 43 the date and dyf ? as well the 7.62. The left side has the serial number that matches the bolt(but that's it all other numbers don't match) only the right wing is showing and the other part grounded off and star of David and something inside of the star. Can anyone tell me about the two markings. The barrel has a dot right near the receiver ring on top which I believe is a index mark, "N,, mark which I believe is hebrew?, if someone can confirm, 7.62 and a rectangular oval and with marks so small I can't make out. Any feed back would be get and I realalize this is a old thread. The butt does have 7.62 notch in it.

Also is anyone currently shooting one of these rifles with 308 Winchester ammo verses using 7.62.
The rifle has been used, as it is pretty beat up but the barrel looks good and bore is shiny.
I saw on collectors source one of these rifles for $900 plus dollars, are they worth that much?
Thank you

I don't remember seeing this yesterday, so i remove the trigger guard this morning and yes, it is there. It is some kind of a metal sleeve in the hole in the stock. It don't look like it will fall off anytime soon. It's gummed in dryed grease.

That's a good thing. For some reason people took them out when cleaning the grease out of the rifle and either lost them or didn't think they needed to be there. Same for the spacer under the King Screw on Lee Enfields. Those neat little pillars were put in there for a very good reason and acceptable accuracy depends on them being there.
