This is a good price considering the market of the day. While people want to live in the past and quote prices from several years ago, its not realistic. I remember buying crates of 1120 rounds Czeck surplus for 100 bucks. These days are goner.


Having that said, 17 cents/round is a good price. What is the maker of this ammo? They show a picture of a Czeck crate that only holds 1200 rounds, but advertise 1500 rounds?? I think they just used a generic picture of a crate of ammo but didn't specify the maker.

No kidding. These SKS guns were made to shoot corrosive. Learn to clean a gun and never waste good cash on high priced ammo that doesn't shoot any better.

A P.O.S SKS is the last of my worries. My X39 collection is worth way too much money to use corrosive crap. I really dont care about spending a few cents more per round and getting ammo I dont have to worry about.

I have better things to do in my life than wasting time cleaning guns because I used them once. It's bad enough I got to clean the SVT-40 every freaking time and that whore is a PITA to strip. I cant hardly wait for CanAm to get some Non Corrosive 54R :)

For us little people corrosive is what I can afford just fine for my sks and 858. I don't mind cleaning and I'll be buying two cases tomorrow at cabelas.

Conscripts who could not read nor write shot corrosive ammo for a hundred years of wartime and we still have the rifles in good working order today. If cleaning a gun is too challenging, maybe its not your sport?

Secondly don't be going on about how "valuable" your collection is on this site, I can guarantee there are hundreds of members who can make your collection look no more valuable than a pile of mismatched Tonka toys.

SVT is no more or less difficult to strip than a SKS. Many time more difficult than a Mosin but after 1-2 tear downs they come apart very easily. For me the gas tube on the SKS makes my thumb sore every time.

It's 1500 rounds of Norinco corrosive. Shoot lots when you do shoot it, spray the inside of the barrel with winded or water at the range or if not a long drive take it home, take it apart,throw parts in water bucket or spray with a one. Dry with air compressor oil and reassemble. Total field strip is required after but still makes you learn your weapon and gets easier the more you do it.
 
Love how some you guys get your panties in a bunch over cleaning rifles ...lol Not wanting to throw corrosive crap down the tube in my rifles is my choice.

So what if people have better collections than me, I wasnt implying that mine was better. I dont want to risk shooting crap out of my Rasheed, CZ858 and Vz52/57 and losing money when I sell them because I was too much of a cheapskate to buy Non corrosive X39.

My SVT has a Repo Scope and mount, so yes its a PITA to strip down, specially the cover without pinching your fingers, lol.

My SKS and SKS-D collect dust in the back of the safe. They are the 2 most boring rifles to shoot that I own. But they are great when it comes to introducing new shooters to the sport so I keep them around.

I take it back SVT40 with a repro scope is indeed a PITA to tear down. I use a bore snake and only factory non corrosive ammo in that rifle. I'd use surplus freely in my PU Sniper mosin, other Mosins and svt40 .

A few cents more? Try nearly four times more. (See my post on page 2 for the math.)
 
Even if you only use in your rifle non corrosive ammo, after a range trip and sitting in your gun case or safe, rifle will have combustion residue and will start to accumulate dust and moisture and deteriorate. Then when you go to shoot it next time, you take your rifle with your clean hands and you already have led and combustion grime on you. Its like putting dirty underwear on after a shower. lol
Further more, soot from non corrosive ammo is the same as the soot from corrosive ammo. with time it gets hard if not cleaned fast enough. So when you chamber clean noncorrosive round in your dirty chamber that has hard carbon or soot in it, it can jam your action and throw extractor just the same way as if corrosive round will.
So people that shoot noncorrosive ammo in their guns and don't clean their guns actually run greater risk of damaging their guns than people who shoot corrosive ammo and clean their guns after.
No matter how clean burning ammo is or how non corrosive, there is always be carbon, soot, chunks of led or brass shavings, copper slivers from bullets etc in the action all that with time accumulate and can jam and damage rifle.
Just some food for thought to noncorrosive ammo only users out there.
 
So, we are cheapskates now. Well, I have been called worse.

I have a little Baikal single shot in 7.62x39. Is it alright to shoot that one with corrosive, or am I still a cheapskate? :p
 
Am I the only one who likes cleaning my rifles? I actually get a kick out of taking them down and marveling at their construction. BTW the SVT is pretty easy to clean once you get the hang of it. check out the svt40 bullet trick on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8SQd-dEmbw. this made things alot easier for me in the begining. I would never pay the extra cost to buy and shoot non corrosive. there is just no need for it. back in the day there was no non corrosive. Every old gun from this era was designed to shoot corrosive ammo.
