7.62x39 Bolt action options

Personally would go with a CZ, or try to find a used Ruger Compact, I have had three Ruger compact 7.62X39 rifles and they were all amazingly accurate.

I have a 7.62x39 Remington 799 which is a Zastava M85 barreled action in a Remington laminate stock. Nicely blued and has a decent adjustable trigger. Quite accurate with the right handload.

If you want a plinker and not a hunting rifle, then get an SKS.....

If you want a serious hunting rifle in the x39, then the CZ you mentioned is a good option as well as the Ruger compact and the Howa mini.......

I concur, just buy a SKS (Chinese ones tend to be accurate) make sure it is tightly fitted in it's stock and remove the gas piston and turn it into a straight pull bolt action.

This is the cheapest course for a reasonable plinker/range rifle.

I found my one is much more accurate as a non semi action rifle. I think all that bolt and piston metal moving around on every shot stops them from showing their full potential.

Or re-barrel one with a .308 barrel and shoot easy to get .308 bullets in a true 7.62x39mm bolt action just like this guy did -

That's really cool! I might look into this.

Interesting idea! ^^ I will remove the gas piston from one of mine and try it.

Take a rubber mallet with you if you use varnish coated steel case ammo because I found they sometimes are difficult to extract as the varnish has a tendency to melt from a hot barrel and on cooling stick the fired case to the chamber. A little tap to the cocking handle with the rubber mallet will fix that little problem with that varnished ammo.

How is the cheek weld for the CZ 527? Meant for iron sights or meant for a scope?

I would want to use irons and would be really disappointed if you had to mash your face into the stock to get a sight picture.

The cheek weld is about as perfect as it gets with the irons. It is a very natural rifle to shoulder and shoot.

I have a cz carbine with peep sight and a howa mini. Both are way cool. Both have a mini as well as short action. The cz is a bit smaller and lighter in the action but has a normal muzzle diameter where the howa is very thin and a bit longer. They are very different i like the obvious howa engineering although its obviously cheap compared to the cz. The cz has a nice metal magazine and has a hitch in the trigger pull so bad i can hear it creep with a little snap it works like a good 2 stage just setting me up. The howa trigger pull was 2.5 pounds out of the box
