As a follow up to my previous post... http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=445217&highlight=enfield ... I figured I'd give an update of my Enfield conversion now that it wears a scope:
I made up a 303british.com "indestructible scope mount" style mount for my little pet and held it in place with a screw into the ejector hole (unneeded with the bolt head mods) and a screw through the rear sight base. So far it is rock solid with only two piddly little hex screws holding the chunky 3/16" angle iron base in place. I popped on a cheap vintage 2-7x32 Tasco scope that was given to me by a buddy and took her to the range.
After 5 rounds getting it zeroed at 50 yards and a box of ammo just enjoying seeing what I'm hitting I hopped over to the 100/200 range and made a moderate effort to see what it could do...
I cant remember how many rounds I put on the target (I was just having fun seeing the target clearly for once) but for a homemade reamer used on a bubba'd Enfield shooting Czech mil-surp with a homemade scope mount and a cheap scope, I'm really pleased!
My original goal was to have it go bang and make a hole in paper at 50 yards, I spent the rest of the afternoon ringing the 200 yard gong without much effort
As if that weren't enough the scope has been adjusted for a parallax at a range other that 100 yards... The reticle was drifting ~4" as I moved my head behind the stationary scope so I expect with some adjustment or a better scope I might be able to shave ~1" off the groups without thinking about better ammo...
As a reference here was a group with irons...
I have heard rumors of better groups being achieved by sorting the rounds by OAL, so I have another avenue to explore trying to ring out the best this basement bubba hybrid can do.
