7.62x39 M305!!!!

I just don't get it. What does this rifle offer over a Mini 30 besides an extra 3.5# of unnecessary weight?

Options are always welcome, are they not? Can too many non restricted rifle choices be bad in this day and age? I think not! Keep them coming I say! More calibers!

Of course they are, but too me it seems like sticking a 4 banger in an old continental, they should have gone the 6, 6.5 mm route IMO, give the platform some legs, not neuter it.

6.5 grendel would be amazing since it's ballistically similar to 308 and there's that wolf military classic that's been floating around at 25 cents American per round. Steel case and .400BC 100grn bullets built like 7n6 5.45x39

I think we all could agree that the mini thirty will be the better gun in terms of quality, but if the 305 functions reliably the price difference is substantial

Aren't these going for just over a grand? Not a substantial price diference IMO. Not one worth all that extra weight and length anyway.

6.5 Creedmore would be a different story.

The whole benefit of having these guns in 7.62X39 is that a person can finally afford to shoot an M305. Its not about having another gun to shoot the ammo, its about having cheap ammo to shoot the gun.

Ive always wanted an M305 but I simply can't justify even surplus 308. Its way too expensive. Now, I can have an M305 and shoot it cheap. If I wanted a gun that was the BEST at shooting 7.62X39... id go for a VZ58... at around $1000 its a better gun than the Mini 30. So arguing the This gun doesn't make sense because there are better guns to shoot 7.62X39 is missing the point. Even still, arguing the mini 30 is the best choice is silly IMO. Its not.

I beleive VZ 58s are retailing for around $1500 are they not?
see the odd one on the EE for $1200-1300, most seem to be in the $1500 range anymore.
that is a long way from 1k after taxes

.....and mini-30's appear to be going for about $1,250-$1,300 from what I could see on a quick google search, but I did find a wood stocked mini-14 for $1,000 (on sale).

Plus, Mini 30 mags are expensive compared to ak mags, but the main thing is the mini-30's reputation for not being reliable with steel cased ammo.

But I get it .... seems like a lot of cash for a heavy rifle and who knows what kind of reliability it will have. These would be more interesting at like the $600 to $650 range.

Who said the mini 30 was the best choice? If you want a rifle in 7.62x39 that uses a Garand style operating system than the Mini 30 makes more sense. The rifle is scaled to the round.

Fair point on economy of x39 vs x51mm. However if economy is the main concern than I'd suggest an SKS for that caliber.

I've always wanted a Boys Anti Tank rifle but I can't afford one and the ammo is non-existent. If someone came out with a more affordable version that fired .30-06 I wouldn't buy it because it just isn't the same.

If people want these than power to them but I for one don't see the sense in a 10.5lb rifle in 7.62 x 39 Russian.

Why do these cost more than any other M305?
Oh ya, it's something new old so we need to add $300-$400 for the same thing in a worse caliber.
I like the idea of making one into a 6.5 Grendel or taking a regular M305 and getting 243, 6.5CM or 7-08 barrels for them but why would anyone pay extra for one in x39?
