I have run into a fair number of hunters carrying a 280 Rem. Quite a few 280AIs in the mix. I would wager that the 280 Rem is much more popular than a recent rifle magazine article would have us believe.

Actually you are more correct than you realise, as the 30-03 was in fact some .045" longer than the 30-06 which is the same length as the 280 Rem. Rem moved the shoulder forward on the the 280 to prevent it's chambering in either the 06 or the 270, liability lawyers at work even in the 50's.

winchester pretty much did the same thing with their 300 mag, too keep it out of all the belted 300 wildcats that were around.

Except shoot 175gr partitions with a BC of .519...

Brought home 2 moose with that very load! (Well, 175 grand slam actually)
