7 x 57 Brno

No I didn't get the 21H, I will someday though;)

You guys see that ZG-47 in the EE? Really nice looking stock on that one.

Nechako

Beaver Skin is a good guy.;) I wish my ZG had wood grain like that in mine!
I think he was going to rebarrel that one to 9,3x62.:)

After hearing about this 8x60 AKA the 8mm magnum bombe I found this link.
Scroll down and check out this guy's collection. I think I crapped my pants!:runaway:

Noel, should you purchase a square top Brno you have the option of utilizing the skeletonized meopta base, fortunately the Leupold QR rings have the same diameter stud, just a little longer, with the addition of a kingpin reamer you have the ability to use 1"to 30mm Leupold rings(they come in a variety of heights) and ANYTHING in between, also the reamer allows you to utilize older reticle moving scopes and centre the reticle, not just windage but elevation as well.
First tap the appropriate size rings to 6mm(and purchase high tensile 6mm dome head bolts), shorten the studs to size, mount the scope(you may need to ream the rings first) and sight the rifle, check the point of impact on a collimator, use the reamer(gently) to ream the mounts, both at the same time(gently applying downwards pressure to the end that requires the most removal, my front ring had to come down .034"), checking (by constantly reinstalling) the point of impact on the collimator, when the (centered) scope lines up on the collimator you can blue the rings and put the lot back together.
I like the Pecar scopes as they have a round bottom tube under the scope adjustments(this allows the scope to sit down between the mount rails), they also have a longer scope tube which allows one to set the scope back for correct eye relief when standing on ones hind legs.
The benefits derived from this approach are; you can use an older scope(much cheaper alternative), you get to use the lovely Meopta base, once everything is together and sighted in you can at any time remove the scope and base with a coin and shoot with your open sights, what is more the scope goes back to the same point of impact(mine does), not around or near,SAME!
The reamer size you want for 1" to 26.5mm is 15/16ths-1 1/16ths.
Remember to take the reamer back to the fellow you got it off, I keep forgetting to do so, maybe if I forget long enough he will not remember, fat chance!
Regards, J Stuart.

PS: This approach does take considerable time, however the benefits are there.

Great info!:)
I haven't seen any round top recievers to date but if ever I have the chance now I know what to do with the unused set of QR rings I have at home!:D

Noel, how exactly do I insert images on this forum.
Regards, J Stuart.

Easy way: send them to me and I will put them up for you.

Best way, go to Photobucket.com, sign in, load up your images with their step by step instructions, then copy and paste you images to your post on CGN. It really is easy once you've done it a couple times. You should find more info in the phot gallery forum (a sticky thread at the top) or maybe in the FAQ forum.

Either way, I can't wait to see what you did for mounting the scope. It is already obvious I do better with pictures than trying to read info!:(

Some things never change I guess.

Let me know if I can help anymore!

Late 21's

Noel, I am not sure if you are aware that some of the earlier Model 21's(round-top) did not have the guide rib on the bolt, at least I have seen two that lacked this feature, also the last of the Model 21's had the ZG 47 bolt handle, Model 21 bolt body with long gas holes but with ZG 47 handle, very eagerly sought after(I believe God had a hand in putting these ones together).
Regards, J Stuart.

No Sir I did not know that! I am pretty new to the Brno scene.
I have seen some of the 21's you speak of with the ZG style bolt and I wondered if it was only available in Europe. There was a 21H that just sold on the EE which had a knob on the bolt handle but I think it may have been a replacement from the origonal.

BTW, the pictures you posted aren't working for me, did you get it figured out?

Do you come across many Brno's in Oz? A chap I work with is from there but he said there aren't too many since the strict laws came in and the amnsety where they destroyed heaps of firearms.

Noel, Try These !

Oh yeah Baby! They are working now!!!!!!!!!
A fine specimen. Did you do the bolt modifacation yourself?
I can see what you mean regarding the Leupold rings in the Meopta base now.
Confused as per usual, I thought you had a 21 with the German claw mounts hence why it seemed strange how a Leupold ring could be modified to suit.

Thanks for posting the pics Chappy!

Lazy Ike, is this enough photos to put the kitchen on hold yet? We'll keep working on you if it isn't! LOL

The rifle was a mint specimen when I first purchased it, however I do insist on using my firearms(no fun otherwise), my brothers ZG 47 is still close to mint, he does tend to cosset his firearms(no fun).
A couple of years ago I sold a very good condition (almost mint) 1927 Waffinfabrik Oberndorf square bridge type B in 7 x 57 with factory fitted Zeiss Zielvier in original factory fitted detachable mounts(absolutely no fun as I could not seriously use it), this firearm was lovely to shoot and was gorgeous to look at, however I chose to keep my Model 21 as I felt it was a far superior hunting rifle(and I still do), besides, I just plain flat out enjoy shooting with my Model 21, far more so than any other firearm that I have owned or used.

You know, I was thinking my camper has a perfectly good kitchen in it already. Seems kinda redundent to be putting another one in my house?

Ike, I like your attitude, you sound like a character that I could hunt with.

I thought I just had a chance to trade off my 9,3 to get an Oberndorf Mauser in 9,3 but the store owner had sold his buisness and kept the guns.:(
Another hurdle would have been the fact that it was in Sweden!
This ZG is a beauty but I NEED one Oberndorf for a heirloom piece to pass on one day. I guess my stash will stay as is for now.

My 21H 7mm is starting to show it has been packed in the field a bit too but in a way it is good. To me it just means I have finally found a rifle I love to carry with me no matter what I'm after!:) I't been awhile since I had the same rifle for three seasons in a rwo. As fun as it is to try a new one, it is too hard to develop loads with a family waiting at home and my Bride not appreciating the packages showing up in the mail all the time.:p

J, do you have any pics from the field of the beasts you have slain with your Brno?

If nothing else, we will have kept this thread at the top long enough for that advertised rifle to sell!;) :p

J Stuart, where abouts in NSW are you living? My Wife worked a Ranch in Walcha a while back and she's always "threatening" to take us down there. It sounds like real nice country.

Ike, I shoot things for a living, pictures of dead things do not interest me.

Ike,in Australia blocks are called;

1. Block(covers most sizes)
2. Farm(small and intense)
3. Property(big)
The use of ranch does tend to make most cringe.

I reside in the Riverina (Hay) in NSW. At the moment the country around here is very dry, hence very little wild game(there are a few kangaroo's so I am still able to earn a crust), however two hours to the south of here lies sambar country.
Also we are fortunate as the town where we live is beside a river, which is somewhat of a boon for those who appreciate fishing.

I think the people called it a Ranch becuase they were from Alberta. I suspect they've aclimatized by now.
