hi, i've been wanting to buy a 700P for the longest time. but the Savage 10FCP really cought my eyes when i looked around for the sniper rifle, in both the looks and price. the 10FCP looks alot more bad ass than the 700 which looks like a hunting rifle that's been painted black ,really.

anyone know how well those Savage shoots and built?

I own one of each.
The 700P action is smoother.
They both shoot the same with the Savage being perhaps slightly more accurate, but maybe that's 'cause my Savage is a bit newer (less worn) than my 700P.

"If" I had to choose which one to keep I would pick my 700P not because it's a nicer rifle, but because it's a 'Police" model and therefore better, more tactical and more likely to get me chicks.
Unless the 'P' stands for "parkerised" which really just denotes the finish on the rifle... 'Not really as glamorous as "Police", but cool none the less 'cause parkerising is very tactical.
If you're worried about looking bad-ass get youself a well fitted gillie suit.
 
I have owned a 12Fv sold it and now own 2 rem 700P's (223/308) Im going to argue they will both be on par accuracy wise (sub moa easy with #### ammo) maybe check out 'snipercentral.com' for indepth reviews

It will boil down to personal preferance/ergonomics as they are roughly within 100 dollars + - of each other.........

ha, well since most of us dont buy these types of rifle to kill things in a "tactical" situation .besides being accurate, looking good,tactical,or bad-ass plays a major factor to some. let's face it, if the 700 weren't issued to the cops and didnt get the word "POLICE" written behind it. it'd just be an other black hunting rifle .i admit that i like the 700P because it's a police model, i like it because it's been issued / proven by LE. if both the 700P and 10FCP were used by the cops, i would have gone with 10FCP
 
Military and law enforcement call it sniping. Hunters and sporters call it varminting. Thats why the hardware for one works so well on the other. Has little to do with being badass. Good hardware works for one works well for the other.

It will come down to personal preference. Personally the 10fp wearing the Macmillain stock is a very sweet deal seeing if you tried to buy the stock alone you'd be paying in the $700+ range. The savage just below the Remington is an HS stock.
The hardware it self is a little different so what do you want.
Remington specs:
Cal- 308
Barrel Length- 26in
Weight-9 lbs
twist- 1:12
Savage specs:
Cal- 308
Barrel Length- 24in
Weight-10 lbs
twist- 1:10

They are different guns. The Remington may be faster due to longer barrel but you will not have the option of shooting heavy bullets with the slow twist. The Savage has a shorter barrel but a fast twist so you could shoot heavy bullets if you wanted to. The 24" barrel is still plenty for a 308 so you aren't loosing much speed. The Remington also weighs less even though it has a longer barrel. If you are carrying it a lot that may be a consideration as well.
 
Good thread. What about a Remington 700 in a McMillan stock? Savage has gotten better and better over the years but many shooters just buy a Remington 700 because its "proven".
 
I've got a Savage and it shoots well enough that I'd buy another without second thought. Would be nice if they offered more rifles with McMillan stocks.
 
I have shot both and both shoot well pick the one that feels more comfortable when behind the triger. If you are comfortable you will shoot better
 
I think it will really come down to which fits you the best. Both are accurate and both have that certain "look". If you haven't tried the Savage Accutrigger I suggest you do - some people really like them whereas others are not that impressed. A Remington will have more aftermarket stuff available but it is questionable how much aftermarket purchases you will want or need to make.

One knock against the Remington may be overall length - some find the 26" tube a bit cumbersome. If that is a problem consider a R5 - oooops, sorry it isn't black :)
 
Did they shorten the barrel on the 10 FP McMillan (formerly 10FP LE2B) ? I'm pretty sure that mine has a 26" tube.

The plus to the R5 is that it's Milspec. I believe "Milspec" is Latin for "Wicked-Awesome" but I stand to be corrected.
 
I think we can all agree every firearm we purchase has a certain appeal, but the real question you have to ask is if you want the accuracy out of any of those rifles which one will fit YOU best. The coolest looking rifle in the world simply won't shoot the groups everybody dreams about unless it can be properly fitted to the user. You can look as cool as you want but if you can't settle down comfortably behind the cheekpiece you will always be searching for a "better' rifle when you should have been looking for the one that fit in the first place.

I wish mine had the new stock as well as the long barrel.

This is where my good buddy Rick chimes in offering to make my gun-desires come true with the application of my personal exchequer.

I can tell you this rifle shoots amazing as this is the exact one I bought off of Rick. I haven't even worked up the loads for it and it shoot a 10 shot group under .6" @ 100 yards with a Falcon 56mm scope and a Harris bi-pod. I can't wait to put a Night Force on it.
A fellow nutter has a 700P and side by side I feel I got the better rifle. The Accu-trigger takes a little getting used to but I already notice that I'm getting used to it after only two range visits.
You won't be sorry with the Savage.
 
I was in the same boat as you few months ago. After looking and handling 700p and XCR variant, I decied on the 10fcp macmillan, felt that the feel and balance was better, finish and look more appealing. Quick barrel swap a plus.

....and there is still no support for a "Savage Vs. Remington" forum? This question comes up every second day and nobody has clued into the fact that it is all about personal choice. A factory gun is a factory gun and they all shoot the same. If that weren't the case, we'd have all read about it by now.
