700 SPS Tactical & SPS Varmint

No, the rifles have a metal trigger guard... thankfully.

And btw... 700 LTR and 700P are quite a bit more money. The SPS tactical is roughly $400 less than a standard 700P. I don't know what kind of groups people are getting out of the box with the 700P's or LTR's, but I doubt they're much better than the SPS Tactical.

My 2 cents...

Got the 700P in .223 a couple weeks ago. Best group so far is 0.7 inch with 69gr handloads, seated close to the lands. I haven't done any load development work yet, these were cases scrounged from the range & not formed to my chamber yet, not trimmed either. Just dumped in 25gr of Varget. That's 5 shots, which came in the form of 3 shots in .4 inch and two in .2 inch.

Federal Premium 52gr SMK HPBT's were grouping around an inch, maybe a bit more.

I have since lightened the trigger & have done a bit more reloading, hopefully when Homestead range opens again I'll have more good news to report.

WSS has several more 700P's in .223 at $999.95 each.

Uhh... Chwk Dart in BC will have the SPS Tactical in .223 tomorrow... but it will also be sold tomorrow. Thats the only other one I know of. Sorry man... I'll keep an eye open for any more at the Distributors.

I would like to get into long distance shooting and was wondering what the difference is between the SPS Varmint and Tactical? What is the purpose of the heavier barrel? Am I better off buying a Tactical new and adding a scope and bi-pod or looking around for a used package? Thanks for any help.

buy new if you can...but some deals can be had here and a Heavy barrel is a must IMHO

Got my Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308. Barrel wasn't very free floating, but I guess the rubber stock didn't make much of a difference on the heavy bbl. First 5 rounds were nothing spectaculer (as to be expected). Rounds 6-8 however:

Largest group was .8" due to shooter (difficult to see aiming point in the rain). Avg group was .55"

Won $1 for hitting the dime at 100yds (I know its illegal, but so is going 55km/h in a 50 zone). Anyways, any questions on the rifle, lemme know.
Finally, somebody hit the damn dime

Just purchased the Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308. This rifle fits me perfectly, and I like the feel of the Hogue stock. Have fitted a Weaver Rail and a Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x40 Tactical scope with heavy x-tra tall Weaver rings. Perfect fit for me. Have bench zeroed, and just have to get out to the range to report on groupings...

I FINALLY got my Rem700 SPS-V to print some nice groups today. I got the rifle earlier last month (July), and I had been trying to get 80gr win PSP's & IMR-4350 shooting, but...without much success. Although the rifle was shooting MOA, I wasn't yet satisfied with it's accuracy. So I moved on to the next suitable powder on my shelf, RL-15. Again shooting 80gr winchester PSP I managed to shoot a .261" group.:dancingbanana:

.243win
36gr RL-15
80gr win PSP

It's illegal to shoot dimes? Why? Defacing the Queen?...who is only a figure head.....with no real powers.....over anything......at all?
