A new hunting rifle hits the trail...:)

I removed the factory fluted barrel, trued the action, installed a Gaillard blank with minimum headspace, bedded the action, floated the barrel, did the trigger to a crisp 2.5 pounds, installed dual dovetail Leupold mounts, lapped the rings and installed a new 3.5 x 10 Leupold Boone & Crockett scope. The stock finish is peeling but nothing to be done there right now.

As intended it made the rifle a bit heavier and it is all in the barrel ... this should be a tack driver...

Very nice job. What is the purpose of a recessed crown ? Just for the looks or does it have a purpose?

Mostly looks.. as long as a crown is square with the bore where the bore ends, the rest is looks... a recessed crown is easy to do and easy to redo in the future.

Is that not a cheeseburger with no cheese? Why buy a 700Ti and take all tritium off it? How did it perform before you did all the work? Must have been a paddle?

It looks great- But I dont' really get it...

Why take a LW Mtn rifle and turn it into a average weight hunting rifle?

Could jsut use a regular action for that:confused:

Anyway, bottom line is that the customer is happy!

The light weight of the action allows for more barrel weight in a 24 inch barrel without making a heavy rifle.

Light rifles are nice to carry but they are harder to shoot accurately and usually not as accurate as a heavier barreled rifle.

The ready to shoot weight went from 7.5 pounds to slightly over 8 pounds.. no one should have a problem carrying that little bit of difference.

It isn't for everyone, but neither are ultra lights.. it's a choice.

Tritium is applied to the SS XCR model to protect the steel. It is not used on the titanium model.

Very nice work Dennis. She's a beaut !

You did a very nice job on that Dennis...it looks really sharp !
Trouble is, it leaves me wondering if I should do something with my 260 Ti as accuracy is disappointing...as discussed it is very barrel-light and scoped its actually a tad under 6 lbs. Regardless of the time spacing shots there is almost always 2 rounds impacting close together and one flier.
Sometimes one almost needs a foot ruler to include the flier in the group :(

Looks great! It'll be a shooter, no doubt. Anybody who actually believes a "mountain rifle" needs to weigh under 6 lbs should a: eat a little less at Macdonald's and b: spend more time on a stairclimber, rowing machine, treadmill or whatever. If an extra 12 oz is cause for concern, then they could always wear lighter boots.
