So I've been developing a load for my .257 Wby with 7828SSC/100GR TTSX. Barnes max is 69gr. I'm at 72gr now, still no pressure signs and I'm getting 3500fps, haven't tried going higher yet but would like more velocity. What are your experiences with this?

i loaded my friends Backcountry WBY with IMR7828 71.0 115 Berger ( don't have the velocity for you but it was the pet load)
My personal 257WBY is a Smith barrel loaded with 110 Accubond 66.8 RL22 Fed 215 primer @ 3500 fps

My weatherby's also have forgiving chambers.
The manuals are advice for your rifle, not law.
Are you using C.H.E. and watching your primers for signs.
With your crony you should be able to predict the pressure curve..
As for your guestion, I load them hot, BUT its going to be hard on your brass..

FYI
High pressure loads are tuffer to tune for accuracy,, might be a headache to get a hot load to shoot tiny groups..

I agree speed kills but, accuracy will trump horse power.
Hope this helps

I just bought a 257wby so I haven't loaded for it but I have come across this forum post that I saved for future use that you may find interesting.

I used 71 gr. 7828 with a 110 accubond 3475fps but found 71.5gr. of Retumbo gave me the same velocity 3500fps but great accuracy with a 26" Gaillard barrel.

I had a sticky bolt with 69.5 gr of 7828 and a 110 AB. I settled on 68.5 as my load. I use 68.2 gr. with a 117 SST. CCI 250 primers.
