7mm-08 or 6,5CM

Killed moose with the 7-08 myself, wouldn`t hesitate with a 6.5CM either, just use good bullets, either good bonded, homogenous or H frame styles. 140gr will do in either. The one area I may be a bit careful with on elk or moose is the range on a shoulder shot, if that is what is presented, closer is better in that instance, in my mind. Pick a light rifle that turns your crank in either one, or whichever one is available in that gun, and have at èr. I went with the 7-08 35yrs or so ago, went away from the 7RM, bought the 7-08 and a 338WM. Never regretted it one bit, moose always presented themselves when I had the 7-08 with me, instead of the 338, and it made a believer out of me PDQ, I can`t think of any reason the 6.5CM would have done any different. I always used partitions in it, it did what I asked of it, very well at that. So, flip a coin or see what gun turns your crank.

I shot my Elk last fall at 355 yards with my 6.5x55AI, using the 142 LRAB, started at close to 3K.

Elk DRT, punched through rear edge of the onside shoulder blade, angled through both lungs,
recovered the expanded bullet under the hide at the 3rd rib from the back.

Either chambering will do the job if the shooter does their part. Dave.

Was that the photo you showed me at the range yesterday?

POOR ! accuracy for T3X 6.5 CM - jmo RJ

Maybe try some SAKO ammo for the MOA guarantee !

That was just to see which ammo would group better right from the get go. Didn't need to make too many adjustments in the scope from where I had it. I don't worry so much about groups off the bench, using a sand bag. I don't have any fancy shooting rests etc. Practice more with field positions. Now to work on the trigger and finish breaking this thing in.

Update:

Back from my trip, no luck. So the 6.5 CM sits in the safe for now..

I feel your pain, I was in northern Quebec last month for a moose hunt, carried a Tikka T3X SS Laminate in 6.5CM (BLASPHEMY!) and it never got to eat. I was using Hornady Superformance 120 gr GMX factory loads, printed sub MOA out to my tested 400 yards, was very happy with that load and excited to try it on a moose, but alas, we never even saw one!

Never? I killed my bull with a CM last year. Worked just as well as my 30-06 did on previous ones. ;)
Tally up another one for the target round. ;)

Killed my N AB Bull Moose with the CM this year. The bullet- Barnes 127 LRX- penetrated almost the length of the moose. Stopped against the pelvis/hip socket. The bull dropped at the shot and never moved.

You guys talk like the 6.5 vs the 7 is like a 22LR vs a 300WM.

SO what is the difference in effective range? Like 16.5 feet?

Which tire is more round?

A 235/75/R15 or a 275/40/R20 ?

I've got 3 7-08's and only 2 6.5 CM's....so 7-08 wins 3-2...:)

Don't think it would make much of a difference on game though.
