7mm-08 Powder?

H4350 = 48.5 gr
W760 = 46.5 gr
Varget = 44.0 gr

My best loads for ACCURACY out of 22" barrels... bullets seated out and single jacking.

?.... Tac and Big Game are very temp consistant because they are ball powders made first for military use in 7,62x51Nato and other rifle cartriges like 5,56x45Nato with heavy bullet (Tac). They are made in Belgium in Poudrerie de Clermont a plant who belong to the French SNPE and they use a modified Olin brevet. The plant was put at work during the cold war. They even make one very slow ball, slower than Magnum for use in 338Lap and .50Bmg.

That's interesting, Ramshot designed for the military, whodathunkit?
Here I thought it was BLC2, and 748 that was used by the military, and talk about temperature sensitive!

+1 on the IMR 4064, I've had that shoot good in both my 7mm-08's now. The 140 gr. Accubonds are amazing. May still try the Hornady 139 gr. Interlock Spitzers, routinely the most accurate bullet in my guns regardless of caliber.

I am going to try the load at the bottom.

Nosler Trophy Grade ammo in 7mm-08 is supposed to be very accurate.

I use 4007 SSC for my 7mm-08 with 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and 160GR Sierra SBT. Excellet load for both. I have gotten into long range shooting and have not problem shooting 500ml water bottles at 300 and 450yrds. 525 i can get them on the 2nd shot.... Unforantily they have stopped making IMR4007 SSC so H380 or IMR 4350 will be my next powders when my 10 pounds run out.

Cheers and good shooting
Josh

Max loads of H4350 with the 139gr interlock and 162gr amax with CCI match primers in win brass have performed beyond wildest expectations in both of my 7-08's... Have tried 4895, Varget, imr4350 and none can match the groups or velocity.

Okay, It took me a little longer to get out and do some shooting. Using a 140 Accubond stoked with 41.5gr of Varget, I'm getting a clover leaf @5/8". Pretty happy with that one. So I moved on to try IMR 4895 and found 39.0gr to be good @3/4" group. I think I'll run some more of these loads over my Chrony and see what velocity they run and then dial it in.

That Nosler chart is very typical of north American loading charts showing velocity.
It shows 46 grains of 4350 as giving a velocity with a 140 grain bullet as 2840 fps.
I just chronographed 46 grains of 4350 with a 140 grain bullet in a Tikka with a 22 inch barrel. Velocity was 2613 fps!

I use LH Ruger in 7-08 with Sako 21" long barrel with 11" twist as my "light" gun. Tried a doz or so powders and the best accuracy and performance I got is from 47gr 47SL-10 (slow H414) behind 139gr Honady GMX bullet in Lapua .308Win necked down brass. I extended the magazine box to almost 3" so my OAL is 2.945 or so. With my 1.5-4.5 Nikon I can shoot 1.5" at 200m all day and if it comes to kiling power I could swear that it doesn't differ much from my another LH Ruger in 30-06 RCBS Imp, if at all.

I was using Big Game powder but I quit because I found it was very temp sensitive. I developed my load of 48gr and 140 ab @2895fps and then shot it again around 0 degrees and it dropped down to 2780fps which is still a very good velocity but I have switched to the 120ttsx and cfe223 at 3200.

So many powders will work with 7-08 , it is an extremely efficient chambering.

Pick a powder with some of the qualities you like, temeprature stability, metering, availability etc..............

There is likely 40 powders that will work with 7-08 , W760/H414 being in about the middle of that group.As usual, slower for heavier faster for lighter.

The sweet weight from my experience and factory rifles is a 140gr projectiles and burn rate in that w760 to H4350, your results may and will vary.

Don't be afraid to experiment with this cartridge.

W-760 is great in this cartridge, 2900 is pretty easy to work up to in a 20" barrel with the 140gr bullets. Give it try...if you can find any!

I settled on W760 with the 140 Partition for hunting about 25yrs ago, I can use the 140 ballistic tip for everything else, as in my gun, it shoots to the same POI. I matched factory ammo speed @ 2860, good enough.
