7mm-08 Remington

Witnessed 2 disasters with the 7-08 on elk, attributed to the light bullet choice we figure
One high shoulder shot had poor penetration, the other frontal 1/4ing-to shot messed up the brisket but needed follow-up

On the target side of things, Is there an offtheshelf offering with a faster barrel twist?
7-08 seems a twin to .284 with the right set-up

Do you know what bullet was used?

It has a bit smaller case capacity compared to 284, but its close. Problem is the same as 284 though, can't fit heavy bullets into a standard magazine without taking up powder capacity. I'm a big velocity fan, so I stick to 140-150gr bullets in my 7mm08.

No, likely el-cheapo by the characters involved, judging only by their comments on what was used
Have seen good successes too, Barnes, Fusions,

I have 2 of the 7-08's in the safe. One for the wife and one for the teens.

Moose and deer on the menu from them, with no issues at all. Reloading is no different for them. I am using the 145 gr LRX, but you could load lighter in the 139 or 120 gr range for lesser recoil as well.

139 grain Hornady BTSP’s at 2660 keeps giving this lady, one shot kills!

Well now there’s some REAL BullSh*T . It’s a Great cartridge the 7-08 and one of my Favs BUT to say it’s more Accurate then the 30-06 is really CRAP . RJ
your wrong...but not wrong to a degree. a .284 or 6.5 or 6mm is statistically built to be more accurate with BC and design. now a days not worth arguing with modern ammo
as I shoot 308 federal terminal ascent that has a wild high BC. bullets have come such a long way.

match shooting and what's used and has been valued in this aspect of "more accurate" holds more truth than feelings.
break it down to just pure hunting and facts most 7/08 loads and 30-06 loads top out at 400-500 yards realm of "safe" effectiveness.
have I seen it done farther oh hell yes! but many exceptions to the rule.

can I go out and build a 30-06 that will stomp longer range and be accurate? sure money no object but fact of the matter lighter longer high bc ballistics dictate most guys don't go that route.

not to be rude at all because I see where your coming from, but do show me a guy shooting any long range matches with a 30-06?
Ive yet to see but do prove me wrong. Im not knocking it at all as I have 2. but to say they are as laser as a .6 or.284 is just nonsense.

and benefit where due everyone has their own comfort zone with accuracy and so to speak "long range" hence i said 400-500 yards respectfully
pertaining to both rounds.

proof is always in the shooting, It would be illogical to think yours or any 30-06 would run and compete as accurate compared next to a 6 or 7 round. unless we are talking say 300 yards and under.

but also maybe your just a wicked shot with your rifle and the expectation, which ive seen and gladly will admit good shooting sir!

respect!

Great cartridge, equivalent to the 7X57 Mauser, and right on the heels of the 280 Rem. I have owned four rifles chambered in the 7-08 over the years, all were excellent shooters and dropped game where ever it stood. I would not hesitate to take it on any hunt in NA, other than the big bears.

BC has nothing to do with accuracy. It changes how much environmental factors impact things. On a windy day it can give the impression of being more accurate, but that is not the same as actually being more accurate.
