Sorry folks but it had to be done!!! ;) 7mm stuff just carries more class!

I am more of a 7mm type guy anyways!

All three will work the the same in normal game getting conditions in my opinion.

rofl!

7mm STW, just because. It's just better, because I read it on the internet somewhere, by somebody that saw one once, shoot an Elk at 1500m, with a Berger Match bullet.

actually it was a bull moose at 1800 yards ............. i heard the guy shot the moose in the balls , while it was taking a drink of water , and drowned ....... :D:D:D .

Stop the madness !!!!!! I could not take the not knowing so I had to have all three. Well two 7mm any ways 7 08 and 7mm RM. Don't care which is better they both shoot the same for me. However, the mag makes a bigger boom noise.

7mm-08 is a great all-rounder
280 Rem is an almost perfect non-dangerous game cartridge
7 WSM is a superb but tough on barrels cartridge

My next hunting rifle will be a very trendy 280 Rem AI ;)

I call nonsense.
I'll bet the kitty grab the twins and the dang moose bumped his nogg'in and knocked himself out.

I personally have a 7mm 08, a 7x57, and an STW, I never had a liking for the 7MM RM, I tend to shy away from the "cartidge of the month". Had the STW back when it was a wildcat, and the 7mm08 in the early 90's.

Now I am looking for another oddball or two, or at least not the latest 7MM TOOF'NBIGTOOBEUSEFUL, or 22-WAYTOOMUCHGODDAMNPOWDER or ### RWSAUMSM.

However, I don't have a 30-06..... or a 30-30, etc... 25-35 yes, but no 30-30.

Guess I am going to go back to the basics...

That took longer than it should have. The 280 Ackley Improved.

Very trendy yes. Really trendy if it's a Cooper.

  • tack driving accuracy at most charge density
  • near 7 Rem Mag performance (140gr at 3200fps)
  • moderate recoil
  • 2000+ rounds barrel life (more than twice that of 7 Rem Mag or 7 WSM)
Heck even long distance competitive shooters are moving from 284 Win to 280 Rem AI (this might be a flash in the pan)!

Played with all 3. Like all 3. For a serious killing rifle, the WSM gets me horned up more than the other two, but for a low-cost, low-recoil, high-bang for buck cartridge, the 7-08 is tough to beat. The .280 is great, but boring. Not cheap to shoot like the 7-08, and it won't drive a 160gr bullet to 3100fps like the 7RM or WSM will.

7mm-08 for the kids (and next year - the wife). 7mm RM for me.

Lots of bullet selection in 7mm (110-160 gr weights).

I could be completely wrong, but I believe that any short mag calibre is really hard on barrels (throat?).
