7mm-08 vs .280 vs 7mm WSM

Have the 280, 7-08 and STW. My preference is the STW. The 280 worked great for the young guy this morning. One shot at 250.

I have 2 .280's and a 7wsm. The WSM doesn't seem to do anything that I can't do with the .280's. But the WSM is just so darn accurate that I can't bring myself to sell it. I've killed 3 deer with it over the 5 years I've owned it, but I haven't taken it out hunting the past 3 years. It burns more powder and makes a bigger noise than the .280's. That's all. I don't need a magnum to kill a deer, and when I hunt elk I usually take a .30 cal magnum of some variety, or the .280 loaded with 140gr ttsx. So the 7wsm stays home. Maybe I'll use it when I get drawn for Antelope. That could be next year.

I've had a 7mm-08 for over 30 years in a rem 700 and pull it out of the safe every so often to take hunting(this time it sat unused for 10 yrs)...so far this year (with it) I shot a moose @357 yards and a wolf @187yards, every time I use this sweet little cartridge it really impresses me...cheap to shoot, next to nothing for recoil, and kills game better than one would think. The 7mm-08 get my vote.
Happy hunting.

I had a stevens 200 in 7mm-08 and liked that caliber so much I sold it and bought a Savage 11gcns in 7mm-08. I am old fashion and love my wood! lol Wasn't fussy about the internal mag. in the 200.

7mm-08 is a great all-rounder
280 Rem is an almost perfect non-dangerous game cartridge
7 WSM is a superb but tough on barrels cartridge

My next hunting rifle will be a very trendy 280 Rem AI ;)

what is dangerous game?
i know some hunters using 270 or 280 and 7x64 brenneked where grizzlies live and are hunted.
my wife was with a 270 win while grizzly hunting this fall but she s not reading the stuff.
so 280 rem will fit any bill.

all the best.
