7mm-30 Waters

I think Hornady made a 139gr FP bullet. Best do a search for those puppys.

Ken Waters does a good article on the 7/30 Waters in Pet Loads.

Ken Waters attempt to transform the traditional quick handling "woods rifle" into a longer range deer slayer.

Pretty cool cartridge, but pretty much a commercial flop.

It did get popular in single shot "rifle handguns" and that's probably a great use of it, since you can use pointy bullets:)

Basically bridges the gap between two other fine lever rounds, the .30-30 and the .25-35. They were smart enough to keep the performance level up by only offering it in a 24" barreled rifle.

I can remember G&A testing a 24" version in 1984-85. It was the most accurate '94 they had ever tested up to that point.

With factory loads and irons, it shot a 1.3" average at 100......

It's just a bit slower than the 7mm STE (Shooting Times Easterner) that Layne Simpson dreamed up,which was a 307 (read , rimmed 308 case) necked to .284....and was also made to work in the Win 94/Marlin 336 lever rifles.

Nosler used to make a 120 grainer with a plastic flat point..I believe it was of the old Solid Base design,...the forerunner to the Ballistic Tip...

The Hornady 139 gr FP has been discontinued, not sure if you can still get the 120 gr Nosler Solid Base FP. Speer does make a 130 gr Hotcore FP for the 7-30 Waters though. I would try that one, they are usually good bullets at those velocities. :)
