7mm and africa

I don't see it. Even counting penetrating the dewlap there isn't 18" of meat to get through to enter the rib cage. Or am I missing something, are their necks really long, like 3 feet or more?

I have not shot an eland, but my preference on a frontal shot, regardless of rifle, is under the chin, which even in the case of the eland would have little resistance for the bullet until it hit the spine.

And I'm not "attacking" some woman. who the ell is this woman

:eek::eek: I'm taking it you haven't read any of my posts then.....WOW.....you are a piece of work.:eek:

She read all your comments last night....I won't say what she thought of your manhood but picking on a woman and putting up crying baby pictures because she is not comfortable with the recoil of a .375 does seem even beneath you but apparently not. Quite disgraceful I'd say!

Well considering that's what I've been talking about since my first post, either you can't read or care not to but thanks for all your valuable input..:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'll pass your message along to her but I'm guessing in the four years she's been hunting that she's likely had more real world experience than you anyhow so I'm sure she'll be comfortable shooting an eland with whichever gun she chooses.

Really sad you have to pick on a fairly new hunter, and a woman to boot to make you feel better about yourself though. You should really think about becoming a mentor.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

HUH

From my first response to you.....please tell me you really aren't this dense

I can list another 50 references to her in this thread if you like. Everyone else seemed to get it.....

I'm sure your experience is far greater than his though! I'll tell bouhuntress that if she want to be a real man that she's way better off with a rifle that kicks the snot out of her or that she just isn't man enough to hunt eland and kudu and needs to take them off her list..

Oh sorry I didnt notice her name in the upper left corner. I respond to those who write. Is she a member? A member on a gag order? A member who's afraid to post? What, I dont get it. If the post is about a member, ohyaa ohyaa let the member speak. I can see where recoil would be a concern. I mean after all its real and internet talk dont matter for Jack so if we're scared of the later might actually be best to stay way from africa..IMHO

I just would have thought that someone other than a troll that became this involved in a thread would at least have the courtesy to read the posts and absorb their content before going on and on and on with advice. I guess there's a lesson here......:feedTroll:

Ah, finally we agree on something...Newton's third law...

"To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction."

For every intelligent, well thought out post one here, there is the opposite reaction.......one of your posts.

I'm done Bub....don't let your Mom catch you spending so much time on the computer . If you hear her coming down the stairs, act natural........

Do I feel undergunned not really if you do your part properly the rest is history.

And your probably not if you stay within those restraints. Pretty hard to do though, when you got all the money in the thing and the big fella is only a few percent more cost. Easier I find to buy something here, even if you sell it when you come back than to watch a dream walk by when your continents away

A post that answers the inital question.

changing of the guns

Well after speaking to my PH the company had no problems with my choice of rifles other than the fact one was a single shot that being the 7x57. Two classics fell into my lap literally so have switched up guns a bit taking a Winchester pre64 300H&H and a mark X 7x57 in a way I actually feel a little bit heavy now for what I am shooting the H&H is shooting a 200 grain Nosler Partition and the 7x57 will have 175 grain Nosler Partitions and a some Barnes Banded solids in 140grain if they ever show up. Its strange the first 20 years or so in life prior to making any money I shot a 303 Lee Enfield it did its job just rikki ticky read any of the old classic literature and you will see the 303, 7x57 6x54 slew a whole bunch of Elephants and those boys did not feel under gunned.

Those combo's will work great for those animals, but what are you going to use the solids for. They are illegal to use in most countries.

solids

Cannot use a solid in good old Canada but was told to use solids on the smaller antelope, and some of the varmits. In some places you have to use a solid rather than a expanding bullet especially on dangerous game. Whilst living in central and northen africa all we could find were solids and for the most part you bought ammo by the pail and hoped you could find some usable ammo for hunting rifles, sure did get alot of 7.62x39 but every once and awhile a real gem would come into the bucket. managed to pick up some really rare enfield, carcano and mauser head stamps along with some classic kynoch ammo

In my opinion that just proves that there were plenty of liars back then too. The exception was Bell but his method of shooting the elephant was to creep up behind his target and shoot it in the back of the head where the skull was the thinnest. Any thought that these rifles could be used effectively with a frontal brain shot or a body shot is pure fantasy. It seems to me that Bell always had a heavy along in case of emergencies.

That is certainly the perception, and it would probably apply to lead core full metal jacketed bullets, however, non-expanding cast lead (mono-metal) bullets are legal, so I think it would be tough to get a conviction against someone who opted to use a mono-metal bronze solid that was marketed as a big game bullet.
