7MM build to "do it all"

So this 7 PRC...... what powders are best suited for this caliber?
I am very fond of my ruger m77 mkII in 7mm rem mag and if/when I rebarrel it , what am I really gaining on the hunting end of things? I do the occasional long range shooting past 600 and out to 1000 but my long range shooting friends don't get to visit too often so it's been a while now.
I like a very accurate rifle though , so would I be gaining much by switching to a 7PRC barrel or just sticking with the trusty 7mag? Heavier loads and longer throat/bore life with the 7PRC?
It's a few questions I have after reading through this thread.
maybe picka bullet you like then compare apples/apples
Handloaded to equal pressures, there won't be much difference in the two using the more common hunting bullet weights
like 160 s or 145 monos
ymmv

The problem with a do it all rig is that it's a compromise for everything, haha. That being said I did have Insite Arms spin me up a 26" carbon 7SAUM barrel a few years ago. It was for a switch barrel on a Rem 700, 20" sendero profile .308 and 26" Hardy carbon in 7SAUM. Though process was I'd hunt around home with the shorter .308 barrel (mostly tight woods here, rarely a shot past 2 or 300) and spin on the 7mm for mountain hunting or for lightweight ELR. As much as I liked the 7SAUM, I ended up getting a 24" sendero contour 6.5 creed spun up to shoot NRL Hunter matches and mostly hunted with that out of laziness to swap barrels, haha. I need to spin that7mm pipe back on and try some of the lighter 160 class bullets out. I was running 180s (Berger Hybrids and Hornady ELD-Ms) cause I intended to shoot further but never could get the 180s moving the 2900fps many claimed (not at SA mag length, at least) without signs of pressure. 2800 was easy though. That barrel probably woulda got more of a workout had I not also gone and built a .300NM as a dedicated ELR rig...

This will be my 7saum whenever I get around to buying a barrel for it. It’s been on the back burner for awhile now while I get a couple other projects done. It’ll be right around the 6 pound mark, but probably slightly under with a 24” benchmark #2 and an apa micro bastard.

When it comes to stocks, one thing that may seem insignificant but is hugely important for precision (imho), is an adjustable comb.

Just how your eye relief distance changes with different optics,, seeing you mount them more forward or rearward for optimal alignment, so can your comb height depending on different ring/mount combinations.

Having the ability to fine tune comb height can perfectly align you with your scopes eye box the instant you shoulder your rifle.

The better a rifle fits you (proper LOP, comb height and firing hand/trigger finger placement) the more consistently you will drive it.

Thanks for all the replies and time you have all spent, I appreciate it! Been reading every reply. I've decided a couple of things.

Action will be a ks arms/ really like Tikka but ks it will be
Barrel will be ks arms in 7prc, not sure on profile yet? Brake will be ks arms
Trigger will most likely be a trigger tech diamond or special

As for stock, I am not sure yet. Thinking of an AG or the MDT CRBN, thinking this will end up being an all Canadian components build! Are there any oher Canadian stock builders besides MDT?

I am not a rich person by any means and may have to unload some rifles from the cabinet to support this build but it should be worth it.

Keep any eye out in the EE section for some rifles coming up for sale 😂...why is it so hard to sell rifles a guy doesn't even use!?
You cant go wrong with a KS action and barrel. I have a SAR 3 Lug with a KS pipe in 6BR and its extremely pleasant to shoot. Stupid accurate as well. Their actions are designed and "timed" around the trigger tech diamond, thats what I run and i'd also recommend it.

All GREAT choices ! KS ARMS does some good work and product . RJ

He said he’ll weigh it in the morning for me. But here’s the build sheet.

I don’t see a barrel length on there? It might be just out of the screenshot but I’m guessing it’s probably 24”

Thank you! Besides a carbon barrel this is very similar to what I would like to build. I think I have turned away from the carbon barrel and with go fluted stainless.

6.5 pounds with no optic.

I like the way ks arms does their flutes on their barrels. It’s a bit different than everybody else.

If you decide to go with a chassis you could add some m-lok weights to it for screwing around and then take them off for hunting as well.

Thank you for taking the time, appreciate it. That's the weight I would like to be and very good point about the chassis and weights option!

I am new to the forum and relatively new to shooting/ hunting. Been shooting and reloading pretty heavy for the last two years, got in deep...real fast!

To the point, I am wanting to build a "light"(8-10lbs) 7MM rig for hunting (100-400yrds) and medium to long range shooting (1000yrds and beyond). My main hunting focus is on elk and moose but deer and bear would be in the mix from time to time. I am ok with recoil management and my main rifle is a 300prc right now. I like the 300prc but I am wanting to build a 7mm custom rifle, this would be my first custom build. My main question would be what chambering? I am leaning towards a 280AI/ 7 SAUM or 7prc, what do you recommend and why? I will most likely load 160cx's or something similar for hunting and load some heavies for long range. I am all ears for suggestions, I have no bias here.

Second question, what action? I would like something stainless or very rust resistant, smooth and the option to change bolt faces if I decide to change it up. Bolt face changes are not a deal breaker though.

Third question would be stock, thinking carbon fiber here as well. I do like adjustability to get the ergos right! I would prefer a stock over a chassis.

Fourth question would be barrel, I'm leaning towards a proof carbon sendero, what carbon barrels have you used that flat out shoot. I would like to use a muzzle break as well, any suggestions there would be nice.

The rest of the build I think I have dialed... scope, mounting and trigger etc...

Sorry for the long post, thanks for your time if you made it to the bottom!

Cheers!
Have a look at Springfield Armory Waypoint in 7mm PRC.
