7mm PRC is SAAMI approved.

I have to agree here. it really is well-situated between the 300 PRC and 6.5 PRC. Hornady has done pretty well in this area with the 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC, and 300 PRC. All three are doing quite well and the 6mm Creedmoor looks to be not too far behind (IMO another great cartridge). If they have some rifle builders "on deck" to chamber their rifles right out of the gate then I can see this thing taking off. It won't replace any 7-mags but I think it could easily be to the 7-mag what the 300 WSM is to the 300 Win Mag - the WSM became quite popular in its own right.

A T3X or B-14 Wilderness in 7mm PRC could fit nicely into my safe.

When the 300 WSM came out there were lots of naysayers. Now it's a very popular hunting cartridge, at least in the west. 375 Ruger was supposed to be dead in a year or two but it's not.

New cartridges become popular if they make sense and they are well supported. If I was in the market for a 7mm magnum I would look at the 7PRC, for sure. Same with the 300 PRC if I wanted a long action 300 Magnum. Well, I already have a 300 PRC but it's a precision rifle...Once you use it a bit it's easy to see it's benefits compared to a 300 WM and I suspect the 7PRC will be the same over a 7RM.

I've been handloading for a long time now so ammo availability is usually a moot point for me.
 
I think this 7prc will make it with the support from Hornady. The thing I never understood was why the 7 wsm never became as popular as the 300 and 270 wsm. I thought the 7 was the better of the three cartridges.

That was my line of thinking as well, I always thought the 7 WSM was the best of the short mags, either way I think this 7mm PRC will do well, seems like a sensible cartridge.
 
The 7 Rem Mag will always be a better hunting cartridge. The 7 wsm and Saum found that out the hard way. The PRC is just a slow learner.

Better? I dunno about that. But it is certainly far more established - there are thousands if not millions of rifles in the hands of hunters already - which is a massive hill to climb for any new cartridge.

Then again, the PRC line in general seems to be more focused on the target crowd vs the hunter crowd, which makes sense as most people I know who only own guns for hunting have little interest or concern about new fancy cartridges when their 30-06s and 270s have been killing game just fine for decades.

But no it doesn't get old to answer your question, I find the new cartridges and having rifles built on them, hand loading for them and spending lots of time at the range shooting and hunting them very interesting, its my main hobby and I really enjoy it.

Please don't think Im so naive that I think the new 7mm PRC will kill a deer any better than a 280 Ackley or 7mm Rem Mag, I just happen to like the new cartridge design better than the 7mm Rem Mag cartridge, I just think of the 7 PRC as a new and improved 7mm Rem Mag just like the 300 PRC is an improved 300 win mag.

For sure. I’m not disagreeing with building rifles for enjoyment. Just because you enjoy it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the most popular cartridge on the planet.
 
It doesn’t bother me. But it’s bothering you to a point that you are angry about phone calls to gunsmiths and sources of brass. How inappropriate is that? The point is that there is always something better. The 222 just happens to be the poster child for that. Give it a rest.
