7mm PRC

Have a buddy stateside that runs one of those for long range coyote smashing. It's an impressive caliber. I kinda want to try one when it's time to rebarrel my .300NM which I'll grant is already lotsa fun slinging 220gr LRHTs at just shy of 3200 fps :)

Yeah, the ballistics are impressive. Barrel life is likely short, however. Still, hotrodding is always more expensive than driving the family sedan. - dan

The over bore 7s have wicked ballistics. I don't have the income to support the barrels and components though. Should neck down a 50bmg to 7mm. Would that even work? Probably need a 50 inch barrel

I think you kinda hit the point of diminishing returns past a 7-300 Norma Mag AI, haha. I dunno how fast you can push a 195 before it explodes...

Many years ago I built a 7mm-378 Wby in my pursuit of weird and wonderful boomers. Used to buy powder from a company in the US called Thunderbird, apparently it was originally designed for 20mm cartridges. Could push 195 gr Barnes easily to 3400, but the jackets started coming apart. No monolithics then, but I'm sure they would have stood up better. Would have liked to have used a 200 gr 7mm, but never found one, even from custom bullet makers. Eventually I rebarreled it to something a little easier to load for. With modern bullets and faster twists though, I could see it working. We have a much better selection of slow powders these days as well (assuming the supply chain ever opens up again). Long barrels, maybe a gain twist. Hmmm. - dan

Based on what N570 does in my 300NM behind a 220gr LRHT in a 29.5" barrel, I figure you could get 195s going 3400fps or faster in a 7-300NMI. Maybe get 750 rds out of a barrel? haha
