7mm Rem Mag powder

In my son's 70 classic 26" barrel neither 4831's were anything to write home about so I went with Ken Waters Pet loads manual's recommendation as second most accurate load tested.Over the years I saved a bunch of time and components following his lead.He knew his stuff.

Quoted for truth. I miss Ken's writings. - dan

My reloading mentor has always said that Magpro was THE powder for the 7mm Rem Mag. Not sure about it's temp sensitivity.
I had such good luck and accuracy in my 7mm Rem Mag with Federal's Premium 165gr SGK ammo, when I had it, that I never reloaded for it.

Magpro in my 280 with 165gr Sierra :

-2c 2800 fps
-16c 2825 fps
-19c 2807 fps

I haven't shot that load in warm temps. I'd expect an increase in speed/pressure, at least above 20c

IMR 7828 was originally developed with the 7mm Rem Mag in mind. It often performs the best
with 160-175 grain bullets.

That being said, many other powders work well in the big 7. I like IMR 4831 with the 150-154
grain bullets, and Norma MRP has been a winner for me with 160 grainers. I had a smoking load
with the 175 Partition and Ramshot Magnum. Shot sub-moa consistently out to 400 meters.

I would be willing to bet that Reloder 25 and 26 would work well also. Dave.

IMR 4831 with hot loads for my 7mm produce great velocity & accuracy.... like others have said.. No reason to even try other powders. When I was researching which powder to try when I first got into reloading, the common denominator was IMR4831, & I can see why now!
