7mmx39 for Deer?

Winchester Super X and Federal Fusion both make a deer hunting 7.62x39 soft point for non-reloaders these days. I think the manufacturers realize there are a lot of guys taking their SKS to the field.

Put on a rear (adjustable) peep sight...you may also need a thinner front post, practice with a few boxes of GOOD SP ammo (if your already good with irons) and you should be good til 200 yards no problem (but the closer the better!!!)...more then enough range for the average bush/farmers field hunt.

Increased sight radius with some fine tuning + good quality ammo = better accuracy and improved ACCURATE range!!!

The Prvi stuff works fine on deer. I gave up trying to reload it cause its a hassle trying to find the empty brass in the snow.
Mexican match. Pull the FMJs, dump the powder from 10 of them into your scale pan. Use the avg, load 50 rounds with that avg and a decent soft point. Then you don't have to look for the brass.

Good idea...just remember (not you per say but anyone who is "new") that is the the PRIMER that is corrosive is the surplus rounds, not the powder so a proper "anti corrosion" cleaning will still be required to do to the gun after use within a couple days.

I used my vz58 with the Fusion soft tip, side mounted red dot, of course, the 5/30 round banana magazine for ####s and giggles.
It is my bush gun as the woods are pretty thick in the foothills and visibility is always well below 100 yards once you're off the lease roads ; )

(this was until I sold it to Mike from Canmore who apparently lost it when his canoe sank...tragedy)

Yeah. Forgot to mention that. I only use non-corrosive surplus.

I use PVRI SP ammo in my mini 30 and have found it accurate and effective on deer, 100 yd no problem. I've tried a few brands of bullet and the PVRI is still the most accurate.

Nope won't work ask these guys..........oh sorry they appear dead.Complete bullet pass throughs broadside 123 gr Hornady SP handload .30 yards and 100 yards.

Well I'm a little disappointed. When I read the heading I thought someone had built a 7X39 wildcat, but its just the same old 7.62X39 SKS. Anyway, Mbogo's CZ is the rifle I would own in 7.62X39, and yes it will kill deer. A fellow here killed his moose with a Ruger 7.62X39, and bang-flopped it at that. Still, the idea of that cartridge being necked down to .257", 264", .277" or .284" is interesting.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Kind of like a mini 7mm-08. Would be some interesting ballistics.
