Been drawn for cow moose this year and my go to round in my favorite rifle is with a 140 grain barnes TSX. Is this enough to take down a cow moose at Camp Wainright? thanks boys. FS

Plenty, will kill 2 if they are side by side. You have no worries. I have killed a cow with a .243 and 100gr power point bullets. Not my choice to do so, but the only rifle I could borrow for an impromptu hunting trip. She dropped with a bang-flop.

I push the 140 Nosler Partition's to 2830 fps out of my 7x57,so a TSX at that speed would be a great moose killer. Bring your recipe book along for tasty dishes after you plop bullwinkle in the dirt.:sniper:

Pounder reports that one of the fastest moose kills he's ever seen was with a 140 gr bullet from a 7-08, that would be very similar to your 7X57 performance. I doubt if that particular bullet was a premium, but the TSX just improves the potential.

Christy proved the 154gr Interbond last year with her first Cow. We are going back to the standard cup and core Interlock which I'd have full confidece knocking over a moose with any day.

How did the IB look, or was it a pass-thru? Any reason for not using them again? I have IB's in a couple calibers, but haven't used them on game yet.

Both were complete pass throughs.
The same load I used two years prior and it went nearly the full length of my whitetail, picture perfect mushroom.

I have have great results over the years with standard cup and core Interlocks. When they perform fine in my medium velocity cartridges I find it hard to believe I need to spend twice as much on the Interbond for the same number of bullets. Flame away but I can buy twice as many bullets this way and practice more.

I have to agree with ya on this one Noel.........:sniper:

I've been practicing with the SST and plan on hunting with the IB's. In my gun they have the same velocity and the same POI.

I used factory RWS 162gr KS for my biggest moose ever. The 4 quarters (skinned) and neck weighed in at 795lbs at Chilako Meats, so live weight would be ~1200lbs.

I would also consider hand loaded 140 or 150 grain partitions. Or even 160's for that matter.

WHAT!! ........

You're not buying into the marketing hype that a standard cup & core will no long work in a medium velocity cartridge. ;)

.

You need to find a 7x57 that has a special barrel that allows you to push the 140gr bullets to at least 3000fps or they just bounce off. Other than that it should be OK.

You'll be fine. When you eventually find a moose in Camp Wainwright, it's like shooting a cow in your garden.
