7x57 mauser

175gr Deepcurls over IMR4831, use Nosler data if you have a modern rifle, Hodgdon is a little anemic.
I load all my eurotrash cartridges like they do in Europe...with heavy for caliber pills.

Island deer? Load the 140 Ballistic tip and Reloder 17 [50 - 52 grains....start at 48 and work up]
Two of my commercial 7x57s like this loading, and it kills deer very
well indeed. Dave

What gun is your 7x57 in as there would be a big difference between loads for a 95 mauser and a modern gun or 98 mauser? Win 760 is your powder with 140gr bullets.RE#22 with 160gr or IMR 4350.I'm running a BRNO21 that's so accurate it's boring.

I've owned a lot of these rifles and currently have two.
Over the years I've come to find H414 and 154gr Hornady Soft point works really well.
Also 160gr Sierra's over IMR4350 the charge depends on what kind of action you have.
You could load them with 140gr slugs and to be honest i did for many years, but I don't see any real benefit in using those over something a bit heavier.
And If you have the rifling for it 175gr RN bullets are awesome when you are hunting moose! Too bad Hornady discontinued those.
Strong actions you can generally load to 7mm/08 spec but be cautious.

Finest damned cartridge ever invented, anything else is just fluff.

I have had good success with most standard cup and core style 160 grain bullets in my 7x57 rifles. Because of the relatively low velocity you don't need a premium controlled expansion bullet. Most 7x57's have a very long throat, and only some will shoot lighter / shorter bullets well. 160's are more versatile anyway if you are likely to hunt things heavier than deer as well. I have had good results with W760/H414 ( same powder, different labels) and with H. or IMR 4350.
If I was to pick one load for my rifles, it would be enough H4350 for 2600 fps under a 160 gr Nosler partition. Or Speer Hot cor. Or 154-162 Hornady SP.

Well 50gr/RE#22/160gr Grand Slam/Win brass/Fed mag primer make one ragged hole at 100 yards from my BRNO 21. No pressure signs but may not be safe in your guns.Only for modern and 98 mauser rifles velocity unknown.Use at own risk.

My load for my 7X57 M77 MKII and No.1-RSI is 50.0 grains RL-22 with 150 RCL and 154 SP... I imagine that this load will work with your choice of any 150 grain bullet... always work up.

OP, you really should give us more information.

A SAFE LOAD for model 93/95 Mausers is 49.0 grains of Win 760 under a 139grn bullet with magnum primers. This generates 39,000cup and gives 2750+fps out of a 24in bbl.

If you have a stronger 98 action, the Brazilians used a ball powder to safely give 2900 fps out of a 29in bbl at equatorial temps. This load is to stout for the weaker actions.

BE CAREFUL. Make sure which action you have. If it's a T3 Tikka, Ruger 77, Rem 700, mod 70 Win etc then you can easily achieve 2900 fps with careful work up of hand loads.

My first thoughts on this are;
Blacktail are not the issue. Northern Van island has large black bears, plus the potential for a elk draw. Don't worry about small projectile. A fast/explosive small projectile will cause as much or more meat loss as a slower 150+premium.

The 7 mauser is not going to produce 7 mag velocity, don't try to achieve that. Find a good accurate load, no matter if its just average powder volume. If your area is like here, shots are usually from bayonet to 80 yards.

Wow, thanks for all of the replies! My rifles are Mauser 98 actions and a Ruger No.1. I also have a pair of Brazilian Mausers (a 1908 and 1935) that see range days on occasion, I’d like to use the same load for all..
