8-40 tap?

Throwing it out to all the guru's here...do any of you guys know where I might be able to source a 8-40 tap from? Prefer GVRD if possible just because shipping make it non feasible.
 
OP - a good question - I would like to know as well - sets of three - starter, plug and bottoming - also in #6-48 tpi as well - most that I ended up with got added onto an order from Brownell's in USA - I do not recall ordering only those taps - was always with something else. My preference would be for the carbon steel type (CS), not the HSS (High Speed Steel) type.

Yeah, I bought a couple of sets from brownells years back. But I've seen them in a couple tool supply shops locally. - dan
 
It just a National Special thread... suppliers may not stock them but they can order them...

Most gunsmiths would sell an extra if they have it...
 
The Amazon ones are good for cleaning up holes but the quality is variable and snapping a tap is a huge PIA. I got mine from Brownells years ago but now shipping is horrendous for most small items these days.
 
Thanks for all of the suggestions thus far guys, thankfully a member here has graciously hooked me up with a tap from his private stash and is greatly appreciated. Amazon was one of my first go-to's however opted not to go that route for many of the reasons already stated. Kms, Lee Valley, etc didn't show a 8-40 on their website (perhaps they would be able to bring one in, I can't say for sure). I'll definitely have to check out kbc tools though, and bonus points that they're just a 5 min drive over the bridge from me...that might be dangerous to my pocketbook and probably the route I would had ended up going with.
 
There's only so many tool makers.
Much is the same but rebranded and priced depending on the store it's retailed at

Well, I busted a few Taps in my time even high quality English/German and/or American made ones. Not proud of it but it happens.

Do not use taps in a drill, this will cut down how many break...LOL

Ive seen stupid people do it.

I've also seen stupid people using taps by continually turning them in never out/in.

I've also seen stupid people tap holes with no cutting fluid.

Some people shouldn't use tools

These are usually the same types of people that don't clamp their work in a drill press.
