800 yard running shot

Here's the video of the running pronghorn at 750yds mentioned by Gatehouse. One hell of a shot, 0% skill, 100% luck.
Lucky yes...........especially after he Missed the 1st shot while it was standing still:redface:
I guess he only practises the Running shots:rolleyes:
Idiots.

true or not, making a 800 yard running shot is much easier than winning the 6/49 but we all play anyway. If I won the 42 000 000 last night, I'll prove to you that the 800 yard shot can be done successfully with my AI.

Haha....I never saw this thread earlier. I had a breif 'argument' with the poster on the other board that stubblejumper refers to. I pretty much claimed luck on the shot and ran the numbers by him, and he got very defensive about my age, and how a 'young' 25 year old like me could be challenging a guy with 40 years experience......always has to be age that guys bring up eh?

The same guy claimed that he has made 400+ running shots on deer himself when he was in his teens, and that laser rangefinders are 'junk' and that you just have to 'feel' the shot.

Oh....and the best part that has been completely left out of this story.....all shots were OFF-HAND!!!!!!

Haha....what a joker this guy is.....I think he got caught up in a story and just couldnt admit that he may be wrong, so he pushed it as far as he could....

ohh come on guys...i,ll bet the shooter had to run the 800 hundred yards to make the shot:p . then it was 1ft away:rolleyes: .it,s funny how stories get changed on the net:rolleyes:

If the guy made the shot it must have hurt like hell when the horseshoe passed after:rolleyes:. I will say this ,IF I ever make a super duty long range impossible shot I am not telling any of you sons to #####es:p.

They dont just get changed on the net but also at hunting camp and when talking to other fellow hunters I find. :p

I don't think that I could run 800 yards let alone take a shot.;) In all seriousness, I always figured that if I can't get within 150 yards or so of the deer I want to shoot, I don't think that I deserve to take the shot. Maybe out to 250 in a open field, but most of my hunting areas are mostly bush.

 I find it hard to believe. Alot of people don't even have a clue how far they are shooting. At 800 yards, a deer would look like a flea.

.............Crayton, when i was still in Fort Mac i took a fellow once to the range so he could try a 7mm Rem Mag he just bought. He thought the 200 yard line was in the neighbourhood of 400 yards!!!:D I knew i was in for a long range session. :D

A guy out here has a range that is out to about 450 yards, at the 400 yard mark he has a steel plate, believe it it 2' by 4'. Never tried it, but looked like it would be tough to hit. Even with the scope turned all the way up, it didn't look much bigger than a piece of paper.

Some of us have witnessed and ranged quite a few shots by one of our hunters at running coyotes from over 400 to 765yds, all shot made with a safe back stop in farming country during the winter in open fields. Now these shot are lucky shots but the shooter has a lot of years of experience and a coyote within 200yd is a dead coyote standing or running. He is the only one in a group to do this, so he must be a very lucky shot? No not always with one shot, sometimes a lot of shots. So is the problem here the long shot, the B. S. since a lot of you have not done it or could not do it? Is it because he shot a deer and it is too far too for be your ethical shot or are you saying he is a liar? What is the diferrence if you shot gophers over a 1000yds or a running deer at 800, the end results are same. Just asking?

Well the way I would view it is , you may not hit the dirt pig the first shot. Not a big deal. And chances are the running deer may take one where it would not go down, and make it to cover and die after a long time suffering. :( The shot may have been made , but is it the thing to do, not really eh. Hunters would agree I'm sure. :)

there is a huge difference between 200 yards and 800 yards. Heck - that far out there's a huge difference between 700 yards and 800 yards ballistically.

I assume your buddy also hunts deer? Ask him how many times he thinks he could hit a deer 800 yards on the run with a cartridge suitable to deer in the vitals.

I watched a video about long range hunting and the guy was shooting elk with a 300 wm @ 700 yds. When the camera zoomed out you couldn't even see the elk. He was a good shot because it was a bang................flop. He also shot a running coyote @ 900 yds, it took 6 shots but he nailed him. The yote did a complete sommersault. I don't know if there was any "special editing" but it appeared to be legit.

Hey thanks for missing me Otokiak... fried two power supplies in four days... Not my week.:(
Captain Deadly says that those red-necks in the video are lying about the distance.... and so is anyone else who claims to be able to make an 800 yard running shot with skill.... not luck.;)
