870....wood or synthetic?????

I've got this old wingmaster that I am not sure what to do with. First I thought I really wanted it to be all black with a Knoxx SpecOp stock on it. But now that I have the mag extention and short barrel on it I kinda think it still looks good with the wood.

Hit me with your opinions? Those Knoxx stocks are pretty expensive I only want to hand over the money if I am sure thats the best route.

The wood on your gun looks great (and that's coming from someone who prefers synthetic shotties).

As far as the Knoxx stocks go, I'm not a huge fan of their appearance, unless they go on a seriously tactical-ized shottie. On a sporter, they just don't fit IMO. They function well, I'm sure, but IMO they're ugly.

I'm going through a bit of a retro phase at the moment. I dig both styles but I prefer the look of oiled wood over black plastic.

I've always been a big fan of synthetic. Just for the tactical look, but lately, I have really taken a shine to wood. Stick with wood!

I've always liked wood. Yaa, synthetic has that tactical look, but I wouldn't trade for a nice walnut stock anyday.

Wood--you can't beat the look of a nice piece of American Walnut.

Stick with the wood, it looks great. As you can see I'm biased. I took an 1-1/2" off of the stock and then installed a recoil pad so I ended up about 3/4" shorter than the original stock.

wood wood wood! nothing like a nice satin finished walnut stock on either a blued or even black shotgun!

Wood aways looks and feels better on a precision bench or sniper rig you need syn. for stability not a shot gun. i think wood does a better job of eating up the recoil

Your wood looks pretty kick-ass, I'd be tempted to leave it. The one advantage of synthetic I really like is that I'm not afraid of it getting a bit scratched.

Well gentlemen, I think the wood has won! I thought I wanted synthetic but now that its all back together I like more now then I ever did. The wood is in great shape even though its a well used 870 from around the 70's or 80's.


Better put this down for deer, geese, turkeys and of course ZOMBIES

Stay with the wood.....the wingmasters had decent wood......the newer express' are cheap "wood" and if that was what you had then I would advise synthetic

That wood will last your lifetime and probably your heir's, too. Synthetic is great, one of my shotguns has it, but wood is tough enough for any situation. Mine has been slough dunked and hunted in the rain and used in extreme heat. . . still looks great after 33 years!

I like synthetic much better than wood. waterproof, more durable, lighter.

Wood is aestecally pleasing, but I would choose the stock material based on the environment your gun will be used in. If wet conditions are in the gun's future I think synthetic is the correct choice.
