I just recieved an 870 wingmaster magnum and am in the process of installing a new DLASK 12.5in barrel. Now, it will look good when it is done however, there is some sort of problem.

When I put the barrel all the way in and lock in the bolt on the end of the mag tube, I can rack the forearm to the action-open position. However, at that point, the action seems to jam, not allowing me to rack the action closed. To rack the action closed, I must first remove the barrel completely before getting the forearm to the action closed position. WEll, actually, I can close the action but it requires a huge amount of force and I know that such force should not be necessary.

Now, I have not stripped the action down yet (it is used so I have to check if the owner disassembled before shipping and perhaps a part was not put where it should be) but a cursory glance tells me that all is where it should be.

Any ideas what the problem might be ?

EDIT: I just installed a factory 20in barrel to the gun and it works fine so there must be some issue with the DLASK 12.5in barrel mating to this Wingmaster Deer action.... still not sure what the problem is

EDIT: would it be possible that the forearm is rubbing and getting jammed on the DLASK barrel ?

EDIT: It seems as though it is the wood forearm that is rubbing and getting jammed agaisnt the barrel :( Either I start sanding or buy a new Hogue stock set or something.... DAMMIT

The problem is probably the dlask barrel is thicker and possibly rubbing on your forearm causing it to bind. See if there are rub marks on the barrel....

Gorky,
If you take a look the Dlask barrel has a larger outside diameter than the factory barrel. I expect it is just rubbing on the inside of the forestock, it did the same on both of m barrels. Take a look at the bottom of the barrel and there are probably some rub marks where the forestock is contacting. Since the barrel is thickest near the chamber it will almost open and rub at the very last bit. I had to remove a bit of material on the inside of my police forestock, and the Hogue forestock was so tight that I couldn't get the action more than half wasy open and had to remove a lot of material. No problems after that, and you will appreciate the thicker haeavier barrel when you shoot it.
Let us know if that is the issue.
Cheers

Jesus, you guys are fast :D Thanks for the tip about the Hogue forend Ike - I was going to throw a hogue set on but if I have to slice and dice it, well, I dunno....

what a piss off *LOL* I still like the barrel but I don't like the fact that now I have to alter the furniture to accomodate it.

I think we'll contour the barrels different in the next run. They work fine with the Speedfeed forends but the Hogue do need a little trimming on the outside rubber.

Hey gorky.

I had the same problem with a remington factory 14". I bought a speedfeed forend and it would lock up really tightly. I ended up getting out the dremel tool and fixing it that way.

Hopefully you won't have to resort to that.

Stupid thought but wouldn't the forearm be rubbing against the barrel in both directions (openning and closing the action)? From Gorkys first post, it sounds like it was just rubbing when he was trying to close the action.

It's easy enough to rack towards you. It's the pushing part that requires more effort. The forend gets sandwiched between the mag tube and where the chamber opens up.

I had a similiar problem with mine (changed to a remington 18.5 and wilson combat foreend)

what happend was that the grip/barrel combination was causing the rails (on the side of the foreend which goe into the receiver) to rub against the barrel.

try looking for rub marks on the barrel, forearm, and arms and see if they need to be adjusted/trimmed a hair (I had to trim a small area of the foregrip on mine)

Gorky,

If you'd like to trade for a factory 14" Remington w/ Scattergun tech/Wilson Combat tritium front sight, cylinder bore, less than 200 rounds fired, cleaned after every shooting session, will also include a SpeedFeed LE forend (Seen less rounds than the barrel), as well as a new Wilson Combat one shot mag extension and spring, (Plus cash on your end) let me know! :D

I'd like one of the 12" barrels, they're lookin' pretty neat.
