8th Annual Upper Canada Double Gun Classic

Unfortunately, I can't make it this year due to a bad back and bum knee. Ol Flinter (Doug) has kindly offered to get me there if I can make it to his home in Ottawa---the flight would be a killer.
Maybe, next year we can have a counterpart in Calgary. Perhaps we can convince VictoryXC to work his magic yet again

By the way , who is the H&H aficionado in the group ?

I'm happy to be counted as an admirer of Harris Holland's work, while Holland was making guns himself, his nephew was still his apprentice, and before it became H&H.

Interestingly (to me), Holland was one of the first gunmakers to advertise breech-loading guns in Britain, though he did not introduce them. Here is his advert from 20 September 1856 in The Field newspaper:

(Kufahl rifles were needle-fires, another lost cause)

Too late , Canvasback took it

I did just get a text with a picture of an H&H hammerless 12 bore with a note that said the sender was going all out for Gun of the Year. i think our fancy trophy may be dragging some gems out of hiding!

Unfortunately I live very far away (Alberta), otherwise I would attend and compete. I have two vintage shotguns, a JP Sauer and Sohns 12 gauge (1895), as you know, James and a L.C. Smith 16 gauge (1901). The Elsie (all original) is the third (bottom) shotgun in the photo, and has been refurbished by Ralf Martini, Martin Hagn and Doug Turnbull.

I noted in the flyer ad that "black powder is not permitted". If I can't use my BP target loads, what about BP substitutes like Pyrodex? In a worst case scenario I can load low pressure smokeless loads but that's just not the same...

That is a club rule, not our rule. I would suggest you give the Oshawa Skeet and Gun Club a call if you want to discuss using alternatives. We are not authorized to make any comment. I’m sure you understand.

Track, you are forgiven. Alberta is a long way and it’s a short period of time before the 2024 Classic will be on us. So spend your time wisely. Get organized. See you in 2025. Laugh2

I think I found my theme for this year, to raise the quality stakes. With an exception or two, I'm only bringing bar-in-wood guns, the pinnacle of hammer-gun making:

It's interesting to see how different gunmakers tackled this self-imposed insanity, in their efforts to mimic the aesthetics of the muzzle-loader.
