No, I did not translate the article, someone on that other site put his Norwegian to use and translated it.

I tried out my own penetration test today with the 285 PPU and the 286 Hornady toady at approx. 100 yards on 1/2" steel. (A full metal jacket from a 30-06/8x57 barely makes it thru). The PPU penetrated about half way thru the steel while the horandy almost made it thru approx 85-90%. The load used was what you provided me( 2440fts). From the look of things, the horandy will do pretty good on the test.

That's testing to destruction, not expansion! :runaway:

Very interesting photos. Thanks for posting that. I'm amazed at the thickness of the jacket on the A frame compared to all the rest. Either the jacket is a little softer than the rest or it must take a much tougher target to get the expansion you want.

Also the North Fork is an interesting bullet but at the price that one of our sponsors was selling them for, I wasn't about to buy any .348s to play with. Perhaps your testing will change my mind.

Keep up the excellent work!!

Swift makes their jackets from pure copper. I'm not sure what their BHN is but it can vary from 42-100 depending on the anneal. Gilding metal has a BHN of 114. Cartridge case brass runs 155. There have even been uses of Phosphor Bronze to make bullets despite the ridiculously high BHN of 241.

Slice 1/2 a pound of bacon into small pieces. Salt and pepper and fry the bacon.
Mix together 4 egg yolks, 1/4 cup of whipping cream and a half cup of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Boil a pot of water and cook a 500gr box of penne (get the good stuff and cook it al-dente)
Drain the pasta and add it to the delicious bacon and bacon fat. Toss to coat the pasta.
Remove from the heat and then add the yolk/cream mixture, stirring briskly to avoid scrambled eggs
Add a little of the pasta water to the mix to keep it kind of liquid-y
Serve immediately and enjoy.

How's that?

Do you require more or are you okay with what you have??

Johnn, have you developed any ' pet loads ' for your 9.3 using Matrix bullets ?
I was contemplating selling my 9.3 but this very fine thread has re-kindled my interest in the cartridge.
Also, I live about a 15 minute drive from Marshal and just never seem to find the time for a visit.

No, as of yet I haven't. Just prior to getting my 'inexpensive' Zastava in .366 Wagner, I lucked onto a selection of components and dies for it. One of the components was a quantity of 285gr PRVI bullets.

With the initial success I got on paper with those, I haven't tried any of the others I have available as I figure I'd be hard pressed to do any better. On paper anyway. Also, there have been a number of other recent 'acquisitions' of late;) that require some attention first.

Very interesting Johnn, your loads and mine are virtually identical right down to the primers !
My 550 FS loves the PRVI bullet and now I'm anxious to pay Marshal a visit...
