9.3 x 62 vs 444 marlin

Hmmm, I'd not heard of that bullet before. At 350 grains, that puts it just a hair behind a 405 in a 45-70 (SD-wise). I concede that would indeed be a great big game round. But I still prefer the 45-70 :p Just more options available to you.

Point taken. I love both, and would give the nod to the 45/70. If anyone is interested, there is some good reading here

Not really hard to mix up the context. In one post you would use a .357 for black bear deffense. In another you wouldnt use a .444, not even for close up work.

I think you might be a bit confused, or maybe it just depends on how you feel that day ;) :runaway:

Unless you're planning some long range work...I'd take the lever-gun but I'm a levergun fan.....use the heaviest bullets possible in the .444!

Tried a number of different bullets, including a few cast with GC and the best overall results I've had is with the Hornady 265gr. These are the 'older' ones as / Hornady 3rd edition manual. Apparently there are some small suttle differences compared to the one listed & shown in their 6th edition. I'll have to get some on my next 'vivit' to P&d.

Nice try...But not even close...as usual.

In one thread, the guy said he had a .357 rifle, and didn't appear to have any other options. I never said the ,357 rifle was ideal, just that I thought it would work.

In this thread we are discussing options. I said that I woudn't consider the 444, because there were other, better options available. Which there are, in my opinion.

Understand?:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:

In the .444 try some 325gr. Wide Flat nose Gas Check(LBT design)hard cast, it'll make you forget about the 9.357x66r, see...I already forgot!

I'd use one for black bear defense, if it was a gun that I was familiar with and accurate with.

I'd just use the biggest, heaviest bullet loading I could find.:

Not really trying at all, your the one that posts these comments. In the above quote it says "I'd" meaning I would.

Anywho, carry on. :dancingbanana: :runaway:  :D

Uh huh....

And, I *would* use it. If that was my only option, and I was conifdent in it etc. It's better than throwing rocks.

Doesn't mean that there aren't better options...Just liek there are better otpions than the .444.;)

Man, I love this place :)

I was willing to let some praise the metric wunderkind when compared to the .444 but to call it the best all round cal........now I know you're trying to pull our crank......nothin' metric or otherwise can touch the 45/70, esp. in a handy levergun!!

Can we get an amen brother.... :D
Isn't the 9.3 a cheap man's .375 H&H? ;) j/k

Oh, there is a whole bunch, from the 375 H&H to the various 416's, the 404 jeffrey and the 425 Westly Richards; on up to the big 50's. And that is just in the Bolt actions. :D

I am NOT inculding the 50 BMG! O K!! :runaway:

There are the various double rifle rounds. From the 450/400 :D up to the deadly, on both ends, 577 Nitro express!

Now, back to my beer!:)

i love 444s, have one and a 350 mag (ballistically similar to 9.3x62). up close i love the 444 butfor all around use the medium bores are awfully hard to beat. i would choose the 9.3 for its all around practicality.

Perhaps a 98 Mauser or better yet a Swedish in 9.3x62 - make that lever gun look silly.
