9 mm Ammo shortage

definitely cheaper to reload. Right now it costs me 9 bucks to reload a box of 50

Holy crap... I might have to look at reloading sooner than I was originally thinking... usually when I go to the range I like to take 500-1000 rounds of 9mm... adds up quick when using commercial ammo!

I pay about $16 for 115gr. AE 9mm in southern Ont. Sad thing is that I already have a press (reload .40 right now) but money is a little tight so I can't afford the dies and components just yet but thats my first order of business once I get some spare cash :D

Our local dealer just jumped his 250 count of 9mm UMC from $89.95 to 109.95.

Where are all the people that said the supply would catch up with demand (and thus lower the prices) after the threat of King Obama subsided?

At least, unlike some other dealers, old stock doesn't receive a price increase, while dust still accumulates on the shelf.

Cheapest stuff he's got there is $16.95 a box, if you don't count the shady reloads at $10...

Is it cheaper to reload 9mm? It cost $22 ....cheaper place to buy it?

Wow, $22. That's not cheap.

To give you an idea of reloading cost, here's what I posted on another thread.
- Primer $40
- Powder 1 lb. $29
- Brass $25
- 35 lbs. lead $35 or $115/1000 124 grn. Copper plated heads
- liquid lube $1
Reloading cost/1k = $130/1000 w/ lead or $210/1000 w/ copper heads

Cheapest FMJ reliable reloads I have found in BC are going for $13/50 or $260/1000.
Diff./Savings/1000 = $130 w/ lead or $50 w/ copper

In your case, savings will be more since bullet cost is high. I use the home molded lead heads for practise and the copper heads for IDPA activities (no smoke).

Reloading equipment will set you back anywhere from $300 - $700 (Single-stage to Progressive w/ accompanying dies).

Biggest component is your time!!! If you have that and want to shoot in the 000's there are savings which makes reloading 9mm worth it. Even more on .40 S&W and .45 acp.

SKS Russian Tula 1950, 1952 and 1953, Sig Sauer P226, Beretta 92 SBC, CZ85 Combat, Para P14 45 Ltd., Para P16 40 Ltd., SigPro 2022 .40S&W, Marlin 60

Where in NB are you? I live up in the North-Western part of the Province and I can get 9mm for $15/50 or $14/50 if I drive for an hour. (obviously I don't go for an hour drive just for ammo, but if I'm going that way anyway...)

Pound of powder is a little high (price wise ) and should do about 1400 rounds...

What do you use the lube for... You casting your own?

I am just starting also, I payed $22 for powder, $84/1000 for 9mm copper plated bullets and $35 for primers...I will be using once fired brass, so I figure my first 1000 will cost less than $140 not factoring in some tax and equipment costs...

While we are on the subject...and not to hijack, but what presses are going to crank out the 9mm and possibly rifle rounds as well on a larger scale.
I realize I won't crank out 308 by the thou...but 9mm is a different story.
It would seem to be a wise investment to spend my winter months reloading if I can spend a few hours and get a few thousand ronds, but what is a realistic time frame for 1000 rnds of 9mm including set up
I am looking for a realistic time frame...not the green lantern speed competition reloading record. I will be purchasing a set up at some point when I decide on the right rig..I hope

AFAIK, with the right progressive press, you can crank out almost 1000 rounds of 9mm/hour.

However, in reality, given time to inspect cartridges, refill primer tubes and powder throwers, occasional jam, etc etc....you're probably looking in the 2-3 hour zone.
