That's the good news-the bad news is they are only available to the Rangers who are issued with them and required to turn them back in when they leave

You bloody trixter! LOL.

Dave.

nope-its true-the Rangers are issued Lee Enfields and they are valued at $93.But-as I said they have to turn them back in if they leave .Got that right from the top

I can't imagine why the CF would put a cash value on these rifles since they'd never sell them if they were surplused. They'd go straight to the smelter like the C1's.

Once again, can you be more specific on the source, other than "right from the top."

In South Africa they dumped surplus Brens and L4A2 into the ocean :( I think this was five years ago or so.

Everything has a cash value. Just in case the item gets lost, has to be written off, repaired ( you don't want to spend more money on an item than it's worth, do you?). Not really sure what the present day value of a #4mk1 is from the supply system. According to my 1988 supply catalogue, some were worth $35.04, and most were worth $57.24, but we have had to go to the world market since then to procure more, so it well could be around the $93 mark today.

Someone with access to a CF computer look up a number like 1005-21-103-7587.

By the way, the same catalogue lists the C1A1 (with checklist items) at $318.99, A Cno7 at $59.30 (38.88 without accesories), a C2A1 at $355.33,
and a #4mk1*(T) at 33.74. The cheekrest for the T is listed at $.56, a heck of a deal.
A cooey no 82 (army nomenclature C2B1) is a whopping $12, SMG C1 is $206.70, and a Browning hi-power is $440.60.
A C3 sniper was priced at $700, and the no8mk1 .22 is listed as well for $50.

The C7 cost $853.38, and the C8 was a bit pricier at $1320.

But, of course, since this isn't Canadian tire, the prices were just for oogling. No over the counter sales of these items, I'm afraid.

yes, that was my understanding-if the rifle was lost it had to be accounted for,and $93 was the price they valued a Lee Enfield at,and yes-I asked if I could get one at that price and the answer was ''no''.Of course-you could always join the Rangers...

NOT TRUE
No such policy exists
There simply is no opportunity for a Ranger to purchase his or her issued firearm

that's what I meant-the Rangers are issued with them as any member of the military are issued with weapons and must turn them in when they leave.

I don't know how if works for the Rangers, but as Regular or Reserve member it will cost a lot more than the listed price in the supply system, should you lose your weapon. It will be attached to a Charge Report with a fine usually of about 500- 1000 bucks for losing your weapon, depending on your Rank. As a clerk, I seen some pretty hefty fines...
