'99 Savage: .308 Win or 7.62 NATO?

I have used many different brands of 308 win ammo in various 308 99's without any issues. I do not use 7.62 ball in them but prefer military brass for re-loading--it is heavier and wil last for many re-loads because of that--the 99 action does have some"spring" in it and can be hard on brass if near max loads are used.

i've never noticed a problem using either in my 99-c , but i think that thing will take anything as it just barely doesn't close on the no-go guage in 308- a real good whomp on the lever might just allow it to close, maybe with a hammer-but it's diet of 7.62 has been very limited as i use 180 grain slugs exclusively which i get in bulk- when you do that and reload, even surplus begins to look expensive

Why not just stick to 308 ammo in the 99 if your having jamming problems using the 7.62.Seems pretty clear to me.

That's the obvious solution alright and what I'm planning to do. But I thought I'd tap into the mind bank here to find out the how's and why's of the matter.

As I said earlier, I thought they were the same thing. But thanks to ya'all, I've learned they ain't.

Appreciate all ya'all's help.

cheers,
CM
