Ok, I have a NP-29 and I am casting 125 gr TC bullets for it. I am using range scrap and powder coating before sizing. I do not know the BH of this lead. I have slugged the barrel and it came out at .3555 - .356. I sized my PC bullets to .358 and loaded them with 3.4 gr of Bullseye. Accuracy was crap and light leading present. I figured to large of bullet. I then sized to .357 and loaded Bullseye at 3.4, 3.6, 3.8, 4.0, 4.2 and 4.4. Light leading still present. Accuracy at it best with 4.0gr but I know it can be better as I have shot tighter groups with Berry's bullets with 4.3gr of BE. I have some WW lead I am going to try next. Do you think this is a lead hardness issue or am I missing something?

Are you sure its leading?

can you take some pics of the bullet and the leading.

Factory 9mm is made to .355. Why would you make lead bullets larger? Hard or soft lead will both smear if you are forcing .358 diameter bullets into a .355 barrel.
My opinion anyways.

Glen

The projectiles should be sized at .356 after powder coat.....

I suspect that is the problem....

And I'm not sure if it's leading..... There shouldn't be any leading if powder coated properly.

The lead hardness won't matter a whit if powder coating. The little I've played with it I've noticed that when you heat the projectile up to powder coat it doesn't matter what the bullet started at, it always comes out at BN of 11/12....

On that note, I haven't tried Lino or mono powder coated....

Cheers!

I shoot the same bullet. Wheel weight with tin added. I size to .357 with no leading in either of my pistols. I'm getting tumbling, but no leading. Mine is powder related I suspect.

All the information I have read on reloading cast bullets suggests sizing .001" - .002" over slugged barrel size. So I started ant .358" and worked down.

I have good coverage with my powder coating, nice even coat, no issue there. I load and powder coat for my .38 / .357, never a speck of lead in the barrel.

9mm can be poisen with cast bullets. Have you tried experimenting with seating depth?

When I clean the barrel, it is streaked in the grooves. Requires some scrubbing to get it all out. I will see if I can get a picture of the barrel.

Is it anything like this.

Pop a few into some H20 and have a look.
I size to 357. 3 different powder coats, several different loads with different powder and never had any leading.
And I'm running them thru a Norc as well.

I had issues with poor accuracy in a CZ Pre-B with lead bullets. Replaced the barrel because the gunsmith said it was oversize. Still didn't help. Traded the gun. Had same problem with Grand Power. Dropped the powder charge until gun wouldn't cycle. Went to plated bullets and solved the problem. Suspect the lead bullets I bought were too soft.

Ya you could try water dropping you're rounds to get a little harder lead.
Peroxide and vinagre will strip leading easy by the way.

I have used Wheel Weight lead, roofing lead, different mixtures all around and never had this issue with any of my 9mm or my 45. I cast .356 125gr lee mould bullets for the 9mm and I water quench them, maybe thats the trick. To be honest I have never had any substantial lead build up in my barrels.
