9mm for smaller hands.

I have fairly small hands and have tried several 9mm's. I have a Girsan contract 92 and have no problems reaching all the controls,
Vs other pistols. The GP100 with compact grips is nice too, my wife really likes it

consider the colt competition in 9mm, the grip is a little better than most, if you want something lighter maybe a colt commander in 9mm

My GF likes the Jericho 941s grip also.

If you are in Edmonton anytime PM me, I have the colts and you can take a look.

I got a Sig P239 and a Makarov MP-71 that fit my stubby fingers.
the Sig is a 9mm, the Mak is a 380 acp. both are single stack 9mm.
I would be interested in the new Glock single stack 9mm or 380 if they ever made it here.

my wife had the same problem, very small hands. we went to shot show earlier this year, and she had her hands on just about 9mm there. the gen4 glock 19 with no backstrap was the best. the glock 19 was also the easiest 9mm to rack the slide on. she is very happy with the glock 19 that we purchased. her next favorite gun is a S&W K frame round back with open back grips.

The Browning High Power has a reputation for almost being the universal pistol as it can be fitted to many with small hands.

As has been stated, thinner grips do not necessarily make a gun easier to grip and shoot.

Some women have quite small hands with very petite finger length.

I strongly recommend going to a range with a variety of rental guns.

The most important aspect is that the gun fits the shooters hand. Don't trap her into calibre and action choices which may be unrealistic.

Don't dismiss revolvers, S&W J frames and Ruger SP101 are now available in 357/38special as restricted and can have fitted grips far smaller than most autos.

Good advice this.

I have small hands - buying pistol is a chore for me. Not everything works.

I can make M&P work. I can also make SIG P226 and HK P30 work. But HK VP9 just won't work. Every little detail on the frame could be a deal breaker for small hands - when it doesn't work, it just won't work.

Picking up a pistol and shoot 10 rounds of it as a person that knows nothing about pistol shooting will not help to pick up a pistol.

I suggest you go out and buy a cheap M&P 9 ( which works for most people ). Once she knows what it is like shooting a pistol correctly, she can then make more intelligent decision before sinking thousands of dollars on a steel gun. There is also less thing to worry about safety and decocking, so she can just focus on shooting ( like driving an automatic without worrying working the clutch and shifting gear) Guns like Browning has a more complicated manual of arms, which takes away the attention of "shooting"

Gotta chime in here with the Colt Competition in 9mm. What a sweet pistol. All the upgrades are / have been done for you. I added a pair of Pearce Thin Grips (Brownells) and my wife just loves this pistol! She has success also with my Glock 17 Gen4 and Sig P226R with E2 grips. All of them work for my Sm/Med hands and hers, too....

Whatever you chose for your partner.... keep her happy!

Cheers,
Barney

I added slim grips to my CZ 75 Shadow and find it much better now for my little hands. For hand size comparison I like the Glock 19 size too but can still run a G17 well.

I'm planning on surprising my wife with a 9mm. Her hands are average sized for a woman, smaller than mine, and I have smaller hands, size 9-10 ish.

I have a single stack 1911 in 45acp. She doesn't hate it. It has the standard grips on it, not sure if a guy can get skinnier ones.

Is the 9mm 1911 any skinnier than the 45acp? How does a CZ 75/85 compare? What about a Sig 228 with skinnier grips? I haven't seen (but haven't looked, really) for a 9mm commander sized 1911, do they exist?

Before someone tells me to go try them out, remember, its a surprise. Also, we aren't fan of the polymer firearms, so please don't recommend anything like that. Just a personal preference of ours.

Thanks!

The most important thing to remember, "If the firearm doesn't fit or can't be made to fit her hands, she might lose interest in shooting".

Let her choose what she wants. A blank cheque can be rewarded two different ways.
