I think you're right Suther. Cartridge length will have some effect on how well the lifter mechanism handles the round. I know some 357 lever guns are picky and won't feed some 38sp. My Marlin will do both, but I was helping a fellow with a Turkish lever gun that would feet 357 just fine, but consistently jammed with factory 38sp fmj truncated point ammo.I think OAL of 9mm is generally an issue with lever actions.
Really enjoying my 9mm TC73, but it uses a a '73 style lifting block instead of a lifter like in my '92/'94 lever action rifles. It is a lot easier to load 38/357 through the side gate rather than 9mm. Have to be more careful to get the angle right with the short 9mm case
