9mm major???

Why bother with 9mm major anyways? Yes, I know the whole major vs minor argument...BUT

If you shoot A's, there is no difference. Plus the lighter loads will make it easier to shoot. You could always shoot 9mm minor in Open for a year, learn to shoot your A's fast and accurately, and then rechamber for 38 super or 9x21 at a later date if you decide you're losing ground due to your C or D count.

I always thought I might try getting a 9mm minor gun for my gf if she showed an interest in IPSC and wanted to shoot Open.

X2, if you can't shoot A's all the time, just like some of the rest of us who seem to have a habit of shooting of the fringe, why not buy a .40? I shoot mostly factory and for the extra $1-2 a box, cost isn't that much of a disadvantage.

YOU HAVE A GF??????????????????????

I thought you were ###? ;)

Let me know how it shoots...

Bevan Grams is doing a low mounted Docter Site for mine...then all the parts go off to Bedell...should be pretty sweet...

Quigley how long has Bevin been worhing on your stuff?
I had him do a set of mags for me took 4 months. Great work but a little slow.
Just goes to show that if you do good work.

He has the slide now and has it milled to accept the site...and the Site is en route (currently sitting in US Customs)

No huge hurry on this...he figured two weeks to get it all done and back to Chuck...

Talked with him on the phone a few times (including a few years ago when I got one of his Tungston Magwelss). Seems like a great guy...

Dansy, look at TGO's barrell, with that many holes and of that size it takes alot away from the oal of the barrell bleeding off that much gas.

Quigley the up date is the gun has been done for 3 weeks sitting in dans safe waiting for paper work to come back from ATF. It is a 9mm major shorty it is the gun under my tag. can't wait to get it need to get ready for the upcomming season.

Did you have any pop holes drilled in the barrel?

No figure I can all ways add them if I needed them. You know it is harder to wait for the gun knowing it is on it's way. Then waiting for the paper work:(
Come on big brown truck

P9 there is a big difference between no barrel and barrel hole ;) a well done barrel hole will drop about 10-20 fps....no barrel drop slightly more :)

I'm not saying you are wrong.........but.....

9mm major? At one stage they were going to ban this in the US as it was seen as too dangerous. I agree to some extent. Just get a 38 Super race gun and be done with it!

The trick to making major with the 9x19 is to seat the bullet out.

For example, I had a press set up for my 38 Super, a 115 load.

I loaded a 9x19 case in this set up just to see and yes it chambers no sweat.

I'm not saying this is the final load length but it's going to be my starting point once I get the part I need to finish the gun.

I am considering getting a race gun in 9mm major
Just shoot minor and get all bullseyes.
Improve your skills, shoot IDPA don't fall into the "Gun race".
Shoot with a "real" gun, just get better.

If it goes bang, I'm happy!
9mm major is by all means the way to go now, as the lower power factor makes it easier, and the guns are so much easier to set-up reliably. Look at the cost of new SuperComp brass compared to some once fired 9x19....
For me, I use 9x21, but the next gun is definitely 9x19. Also if you are using slower powders, a pistol primer easily contains the pressure without the need to use a rifle primer.
