Going to pick up my first pistol. Between the S&W m&p 9. Or the girsan regard 9mm. Any input would be helpful.

Have you handled either one? I'd see if you could find someone at your local range who has one and see if you can shoot a box of ammo through it and see if you like it.

the M&P with the range kit is an awesome deal and gun, but you'll probably want to change the trigger out on it to one of the APEX trigger kits. The factory one sucks, seriously sucks.

I have no experience with the girsan though.

I second the advice to try them, or at the very least hold the two and see how they feel in your hands.

M&P hands down:

-DA/SA trigger systems are more difficult to master compared with striker-fired.
-M&P is a "name" brand gun with a durability/reliability track record and factory support for spares. The Girsan is an unknown quantity at best.
-The M&P range kit is actually a better value in terms of price when you factor in the third magazine, Blade Tech holster, magazine pouch, and Maglula loading tool.

This.
I love the m&p but hate the stock trigger. Apex triggers are amazing but also increase cost.
Short term m&p is cheaper, long term adding mags holsters and fixing the trigger etc glock will be cheaper

I have the M&P pro. It was my first, it came with the Apex kit with the alum trigger already installed.
Love it. I've put just over 1000rnds thru it with no issues. The 3 back straps make it adjustable for
different hands.

Just a thought, if you belong to a range and they have a bulletin board post exactly what you did here on it. I've had many people offer to let me shoot their pistols after merely asking if they like it lol. I've done the same with my limited selection. You supply the ammo, maybe offer a timmies card or even a box of ammo in trade. I'd be surprised if you didn't get people just offering to let you shoot theirs with their ammo.

if i were to buy it again ide pony up and get the core...ide love to throw a red dot on it.

Try holding (at least) both. Fire (or at least dry fire) both. Steel framed pistol is my preference. Nothing wrong with Polymer, I just feel more comfortable with steel frame. Girsan is being lauded as an upgraded Beretta 92. Not sure of the quality of the steel used. M&P is popular with IPSC shooters. Do not go impulse buying because of reviews. Try as much pistols you can get hold of. Buy whatever suits your need and budget.

Safe Shooting!
