The gun is well packaged, the rails fit really well. The butt stock is a commercial tube and a low quality feeling Pheonix Technologies stock. While it works, I fortunately had some Magpul bling to put on it. For the cash it should have better furniture and it should come with a set of sights. I added my set of leftovers from another project and then added my Aimpoint Comp ML2 which lines up with an absolute co-witness with the sights. Overall the finish is excellent on this gun and other than a crappy butt stock it is nice. It takes down easily and was a breeze to give a good cleaning/inspection before hitting the range.

The Range
On last minute notice was able to hit the range this weekend, I dragged out some Sh-tty MFS 115 grain to use as there is still lots of snow. I was able to sight it in really quickly and here is what I noticed. The trigger is 2 stage and has a little creep at first and it has a slightly mushy feel to the break. It was good and was probably in the 5 – 6 pound range. I was happy with it and the nice thing is that it can be changed with a standard AR trigger if wanted.
Recoil is negligible, just a slight lift but really easy to keep on target and it is well balanced allowing for quick follow up shots. All of the controls are great but it doesn’t have a last round hold open. I don’t like that, but it doesn’t take away from the gun for me. Mag changes were quick and the mag well is bevelled allowing easy no fumble changes. The bolt hold open works well and changes with a full 10 round mag on a closed bolt were easy to accomplish.
Firing 250 rounds I did have 2 FTF. They were both light primer strikes, and both rounds fired when chambered again. I have had issues with this MFS ammo before in my CZ pistol doing the same thing. Other than that I had no other stoppages, with the blowback design this got dirty really quickly and if a day of 1000 rounds plus of MFS ammo is planned some cleaning and lubing will be required at lunch! I could notice a slight gritty feeling when cocking the gun after about 200 rounds. I will need to try some cleaner ammo next time.
Results at 50m were pretty good. The first 2 targets are 10 round groups, the 3rd is 20. The first target was my Irons, the front post is actually wider than the target paper at this range so it was a little tricky to line it all up. The height of the BUS was great on the receiver and very comfortable to use. The second target was my Aimpoint and it shows that my old eyes don’t like irons anymore. Both of these targets were shot at a slow rate, half arse rested on a bench in the snow. The third target was shot from the standing at a relatively quick rate (subjective) with a quick reload in between.

Overall I have to say it is a keeper, it worked well and is comfortable and fun as hell to shoot. I am going to need to invest in some more mags and a few of those KCI mags to make it happy. I will post some results with Some glass on it at 100m with some good ammo at a later date, but really I think it would be perfect for minute of bad guy in a dark hall at night.

Is the tube actually Mil-Spec with an ill fitting commercial stock? I asked on the forums and was told that it takes a Mil-Spec stock.

Under further inspection, my buffer is slanted at the back and my commercial CTR stock fits snug. I believe you are correct and it's a commercial. Glad I didn't buy that extra Mil-Spec stock

Nice TDC, by the way

yup def commercial. I have a round handguard version with a utg buffer tube and stock.

Nice looking TD for sure!
They are amazing little rifles. I had mine out over the weekend and ran everything from cheap 115 gr to 147gr and didn't have a single hiccup.

Thanks for the writeup. I have been very strongly considering one of these lately. I have a few questions about the little thing if you have a minute.

1) How much does it weigh?

2) The rail on top of the octagonal shroud... is it removable, or fixed? I've seen the octagon shroud with and without it, just wondering if you can take the chunk of rail off (I think it looks badass but the option can't hurt).

3) Is the barrel threaded? I see these with flash hiders on them sometimes but I figured they were probably like that from the factory and not an easy on-off affair.

Looks like a pretty rad gun.

Not sure about the weight, I can try and do that later, not heavy though. The rails on the front are all removable, and the side rails have some options for placement. The barrel is not threaded.

I have the .45.

About 6 lbs.

Yes, all the rails are removable on the octogon shroud. They are not installed from factory but included in the box.

The cdn ones Wanstalls sells are not threaded. Thureon has info on their website about the correct threading specs to use if you are having yours threaded.

Mine might have come with a different buttstock (it is definately commercial, but Milspec should fit, as long as the INSIDE diameter is the same because the ginormous recoil sping fits inside it) because I find mine to be ok, definately better than the POS that came on my VZ. Magpul upgrade is definately in the works though,

yeah right around 6 pounds I'd say is a good number with optics for the 9mm version as well w/ the round hand guard.

I was surprised to see a utg butt stock on mine. I had kind of thought that they would be... well, a little more refined in their choice for one.

the round handguard is really nice, but if you want to tacticool it, go for the octagonal one.

i think to get them here into canada, they don't have the flash hiders on them. shame, but recoil and flash are not a big thing with these.

TDC is a little lighter than my JRC and about 3/4" to an 1" shorter in overall length with the buttstock fully extended. 6 lbs sounds about right. My buffer tube is commercial, which means a mil-spec stock will not fit as the diameter is too small on the stock. Maybe some older or individual caliber models vary. Not sure...

Peirecce, does your magpul stock tighten up nicely when you "clamp it" on your TD's tube?

I have 2 of those magpul stocks one on an AR and one on the TD and the one on the TD does not snug up as much as the other one....?

I think TD has sent out both Milspec and Commercial tubes on these guns for some reason.

My TD came with a Milspec tube.

I think you are right. My commercial CTR stock with friction lock fits snug on my TDC in 40 S&W, identical to the fit on my JRC. The original cheapie was sloppy as hell.

Mine fits like a charm, nice and tight, no slop at all.

And it's a Commercial correct?
The other Magpul CTR(Commercial) that I have is nice and snug on a Commercial tube.... kind of a bummer that the milspec stock on the milspec tube is loose.

So yours has a milspec tube? I think Thureon has been adding whatever they could get their hands on. I was going to try and take the tube off of mine and switch it but I think they have loc tite on it or something as the castle nut would not budge. Keep that in mind if you go to change yours.

Yup Milspec, On their site I believe they say Commercial and that's what most of them are but mine came milspec. It was one from the first order of the newer style full rail model.

I've seen online people complaining about loose Magpull CTR stocks and I've tried to tweak it a bit but it's till wobbly.
The funny, but sad thing is my tube is a bit fatter then milspec and it's still loose.

That's what I was going to try. My castle nut will not move and I think they may have used locktite. I think it would be cool but I wonder how it will affect the balance.

I'm thinking that it might balance it out nicely? I don't know.
hopefully I can get my hands on one and I will try it myself. I was considering a NEA CCS to try as well, but willing to bet that cycling will be effected.
I just use a freakin' center punch to break the locktite up.
My factory stock rattles so bad, that I'd like to do a swap, and willing to try anything once.

The basic AR stocks rattle. The CTR takes care of that....mostly! :)
